The importance of proper soil

Valinda, CA(Zone 10a)

This agave and the succulents around it were originally in small pots. They have been sitting here on my driveway for eight or ten years! I water them regularly and leaves and debris accumulate around their base. I get a regular chuckle at how well they are doing while other things that are carefully planted do not grow nearly as well. Notice the shovel handle off to the left. Not the rake it has a very short handle.

In the background is an old laboratory sink that is holding other succulents. Out of view behind is another large blue-green agave.

It is if there is anything left of the small pot. It was just a little plastic pot.

good job! I wish my soil was that good.

That is the beauty of these types of plants! They trive where lesser plants shrivel and just keep growing! I honestly think the only thing they can't take is too much water!

George, being new to the Arizona Desert, I just love cactus. A neighbor gave me 5 pads off of his Cows Tounge cactus yesterday....I like them as they grow so fast. Another neighbor gave me a wee Fish Hook Barrel Cactus today...she started them from seed. I hope to do that too....when I find some seed. Have you ever started Desert Willow from seed? I have some my DD gave me and am trying to get them started. Jo
