Plymouth, PA(Zone 5b)

Anyone know the blooming time for these plants:

A Wax begonia Begonia semperflorens-cultorum
B Caladium Caladium bicolor
C Fuchsia Fuchsia
D New Guinea impatiens Impatiens hawkeri
E Lobelia Lobelia erinus
F Cupflower Nierembergia hippomanica
G Vinca Vinca major 'Variegata'

My scout troop is doing window boxes for the church and these are the plants they would like to use but.... We also want to have something blooming in them all season.
Thanks

tamlamb, check the Plants Database for each plant; most if not all in your list should have bloom times indicated (at least as "Early", "Mid", "Late" or "Blooms all season".)

Tamlamb most of the plants you mention are really only suitable for shade or mostly part shade. You mentioned window boxes and wondered where you would be siting them!! The vinca major can grow quite large and was rampant in my last garden!! Can you please specify how much sun/shade the boxes will receive??

The will be mounted to boxes at the church entrance, on the porch railing. It only recieves sun for about 2 hours in the am and shaded the rest of the day. I found these plants mentioned on another site for Shade plant boxes. We figured since the porch is shaded most of the day that shade plants would be best, however we are not sure on the mixture of plants. We are doing this next at next tuesday's meeting so I am trying to get ideas so that we can go get the plants this weekend. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. The boxes are made of Cedar, 30" long and 4" wide. We are planning to line them with a liner before planting in them.

EYES I started searching the database as you suggested and the first two plants were listed by you in there however for Blooming Time: Not specified.
Thanks

Tamlamb: The wax begonia, fushia, new guinea impatients and lobelia will bloom all season. They are usually blooming when you buy them and keep on blooming until frost.

Tamlamb, can't help you with your selection of plants but maybe on the cost. Do you have any wholesale nurseries in your area? Ck & see if they won't sell to you. I work @ a treefarm & we sell to BSA, churchs, & schools all the time. Also, if their sales personnel are like mine, they will know what grows well in your area, when it blooms, & how much sun it requires. Possibly you can get 4" plants for $.65 or so, maybe even donated. You could start with the plant ideas you get here @ DG & if they don't have them, they should be able to suggest an alternative plant. Just a few thoughts, trying to help. :~)

Wow That is a great idea. Thank you so much for the info. I will definitely look into finding a wholesaler in our area. I am sure we must have one someplace.

My Vinca Major is in bloom now and will bloom until it dries out for the summer when I don't water it :~)

My fuscias are just now budding out and will bloom until heavy frost. Same for the impatians and wax begonias.

The only lobelia I have is the Crystal palace blue and it starts blooming here in mid to late spring and goes nonstop until heavy frosts. but I don't know if it is the same as what you listed.

You might consider some verigated trailing ivy or even some small ferns for greenery and interest.

Wax Begonia blooms from March thru Sept. Caladiums bloom June thru Sept.
