Plant a seed today! wouldn't the world be more beautiful if every one did?
EARTH DAY
Better still tink - for me anyway - a tree!! Thanks for reminding us of this!!
Reduce-Reuse-Recycle is my motto! :-)
I just took my glass,
newspapers, and plastics
to the recycling center yesterday.
This year I reused some plastic containers
(w/hinged lids that my Mom buys her dried
apricots in) as seed starters.
I punched some air holes in the lid,
put in a warm spot,
and I was good-to-go.
The seeds started quickly!
Happy Earth Day to all. :-)
I plant, plant, plant and plant even more every day...but I'll never celebrate Earth Day...or as I call it, Ira Einhorn Day. I cherish my wildlife and gardens, of which I have plenty. I just refuse to recognize a day founded by someone as horrible as that man. I guess there's a lot of politics involved in there too. I see no reason why people can't have different leanings politically and still get along though. I don't mean to sound mean-spirited and ruin anyone's celebration, but that guy just bothers me...badly. For the record, I'm conservative...but nobody has ever or COULD ever accuse me of polluting the earth. Come and take a look at my home/garden/yard some day and you'll see what I mean. I never throw anything out of my car along the road and I can't stand those who do. It's just plain rude and disrespectful...towards nature and to those who have to clean it up...worse yet, if it just lays there for all to see until it decomposes...depending on what's thrown out. I do have to like the free white pine trees my wife brings home from school after the kids get all they can handle and there are left-overs on this day :)
I suppose I'm a little overly idealistic. I never support anything I don't believe in...and the day founded by Einhorn is tainted to me. I know the whole idea behind the day is good (and I agree we should plant as much as possible and stop tearing down everything if we can help it), but I just can't go along with it myself. I really believe I've spent more time and done more personally for my environment around me than Ira Einhorn ever has for his. He's spent more time the last several years running from the law to avoid a murder conviction than he has planting anything. I think I've got him beat there. Boy, I've rambled on and on about something nobody even brought up...lol...but that's just me. Something else that bugs me is when people automatically assume that a conservative is an evil, polluting, earth destroying, capitalist at all costs, tear every tree down in sight type of person. Nothing could be farther from the truth. There are always exceptions to every rule, so I wish people like myself weren't always given a negative label when it's not appropriate. I love gardening and I love my trees. If I ever caught anyone so much as peeling the bark on my trees, you'd be witness to an arguement...lol I'm very protective of my plants...I really enjoy them.
