FLAT hose! As seen on t.v

Sharpsville, PA(Zone 5a)

Have you seen the ad??? They show a firemans hose and say it works on the same idea...its green and flat. looks great! Was just wondering if anyone had it. Say it is light wieght

Cocoa, FL(Zone 9b)

I just saw this ad for the first time yesterday and I thought it looked interesting, too. I'll be curious to see if anyone has actually tried it.

Zone 6, OH(Zone 6a)

I'd be a little skeptical myself. It looks like it would be a good idea, but I would be afraid of kinks. That hose they advertise that curls up on it's own looks kinda troublesome as well.
What I did was go to Sears and buy the lifetime warranty hose. It was a 75' high quality hose and if it ever wears out, I'll just go grab a new one for free. It cost about $30 if I recall correctly.

I thought I was seeing things here!! lol!! Gardenwife opened up a thread on this too recently!! :-)

Sharpsville, PA(Zone 5a)

I was just interested in a light wieght hose and this seemed interesting. I WAS thinking of the coil one. had asked peoples advice before. Don;t know now...

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

why don't you know Mings. As soon as I ever get to the store where I saw it on sale I will let you know how long it is and what it's selling for. Could be sometime next week though as I have the builders in doing repairs!! I think it's a great idea because I get tired of undoing the kinks in ours and having to wrestle with it!!

Sharpsville, PA(Zone 5a)

by the time I drag my hose out and get it to the garden. I am EXHAUSTED!!!!! not really, but. you get the idea!

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

same here mings - it's not worth the energy and if there is another way around it then we should go for it. Just hope these flat hoses are long enough!!

Sharpsville, PA(Zone 5a)

I agree! And that they thread on nice too! I would just LOVE to fine a nice. long , light weight . tangle free hose......I understand that is called a bucket!

Kylertown, PA(Zone 5b)

Boy, if it works it would be worth whatever was paid for it. I have been known to lose my religion trying to untwist and untie a regular hose.

Just because I'm curious-- has anyone ever let go of a hose, had it fall to the ground on the nozzle handle, and spray themselves in the face in the process? I do this at least once every time I get the hose out! :-D

Sharpsville, PA(Zone 5a)

I get wet more times than I chose to say outloud or in type. between work and garden. all I do is hold a hose.

Zone 6, OH(Zone 6a)

Uh, yes Inda, I have had that happen more than once. It's not too bad if it's warm out...but if it's chilly, it can be very aggrevating! Also, if someone is watching you, other people get a good laugh out of it.

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

If I recall correctly they said they were avaiable in 50 ft. lengths. I need more like 100 - 150 ft. lengths. I use soaker hoses attached to regular hoses to reach where I need to get to.

I hate it when I drop the hose or am dragging it and the nozzel gets turned on and I get soaked!! At work we use high pressure hoses but they are so heavy. They can be left turned on all day, run over and still not burst, but are just too heavy for home use. I do like my light weight hose from Sears, but it kinks sometimes and that agrivates me.
I went to Home Depot and got hose splitters and connected several hoses at different angles and love those. You just turn on the hose you need and turn the other one off, so you don't have to drag 200 ft of water hose around corners of the house.

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

Cala I must look into that then!! Sounds like one way of getting rid of the dratted kinks. There is nothing more exasperating!! Small things in the bigger scheme of things - we shouldn't complain really!! :-)

Spicewood, TX(Zone 8b)

If I have to drag a hose more than 40 feet or so, I install a spigot. If that's not practical for you, how about doing kind of like what Cala said ~ get some hose "y's" (hose attachments that let you screw on two hoses to the end of one hose) and lay out hoses as if they were pipe and position the Ys as if they were new spigots (hose menders that let you put male and female ends on hoses anywhere would help with that). You could lay the hoses in the flowerbeds and stake down the connections so they don't move and damage your plants ~ if you have to go across some grass, well, that's a perfect excuse for a new flowerbed there! LOL! Or just dig a shallow trench and put some pipe under there with connections on each end for the hoses. If you can afford quick connects at each Y to make it easier for you to connect another hose to the "system", that would be so easy! A bonus is at the end of the year you could just roll the entire thing up and put it in the garage to avoid freezing pipes. Another thing you can do is use pvc pipe with screw-on ends for this set-up ~ cheaper than all those hoses, but a bit harder to lay out and take up.

It's good to hear I'm not the only one to take an unwanted shower in the yard. It happens to me almost every time I try dragging that hose around. since i'm in a chair it really gets wound up, or I get it where I want it, then my wheel rolls over it and cuts off the flow. I put the hose between my knees and drag, going backwards. If I stay in one place too long My tires spin and I risk getting stuck.THAT SCARES ME! ya gotta do what ya gotta do! I'm not one to sit back and wait for someone to come along and do it for me. My hubby mentioned seeing this hose and I have since seen it on tv. So I REALLY would like info too!

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

I'm going to Sam's tomorrow, so I'll check it out!! Hope they are still on sale!!

Sharpsville, PA(Zone 5a)

ooooo let us know

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

Mings - I just don't know about that store!!! They didn't have it in stock - sold out!! I asked when they would have more and they couldn't say!!! Why is it that they only have one-off items!! They hardly seem to repeat the stock at all!!! Well, not the things I want to buy. I should have learnt my lesson by now, if I see something I like, better buy it there and then because it sure won't be there the next time!!

Sharpsville, PA(Zone 5a)

Its the old Snooze ya Loose !!!! If you see something at Sams; you best snag it right away. If you think it will be there "next time"... NOT!!!! Thats a shame. my Sams is 17 miles from here. have to head that way some time soon. Will check .

Silver Lake, OH(Zone 5b)

I just ordered one of those flat hoses, 25 feet, should be big enough for the new yard... hope it works like they say, it's a DRAG dragging the hose around!

Sharpsville, PA(Zone 5a)

I guess the only bad part is if you want it to be flat... you have to keep running back to the shut off . was thinkin about these last nite when I was watering.

Hampstead, NC(Zone 8a)

It works, it really works. Friend of mine bought one at WalMart. Has the one attachment....jet spray, mister, etc.
Hooked it up to the faucet and tried it out. Afterwards, just drained it like any other hose and wound it back up into the reel. It really was that simple. Will go get one tomorrow.

Troy, VA(Zone 7a)

Walmart huh!! Thanks for the testimonial!!!
