I have a brick planter box in the middle of my courtyard. I've had ivies and variegated liriope for year round green. I decided to plant a brugs in the center. Something was chomping on it. I had found a couple of small slugs. Put out a saucer of beer last night. Caught 6 big ones, 8 medium and a bunch of babies. Not to mention 4 small snails and pill bugs. What a haul. Put another one out to night to see if I got them all. It was awful, I just couldn't believe it. Brenda

Plantnutz, look at Wintermoors thread about slug general.
I used beer traps. If somebody had told me the story, I wouldnt have believed it; but it happened to me! Now I use baits and that in early spring. They hatch in early spring and when we notice them, its often already the second and third generation.
