If you're remotely close to Columbus, Ohio, you might want to check out this sale. It's at deMonye's Greenhouse at 2500 Airport Road, off of 5th Avenue near the airport.
Here's a list of the plants I got there for 25-cents each: http://davesgarden.com/journal/viewentry/13834/index.html
Here's one picture I took yesterday. There are others in my journal entry.
HUGE 25-Cent Perennial Sale :) :)
Kimberley I am soooooooo envious!!! WHAT A LIST - sheesh!!!!! Lots of my favs there too........lucky, lucky you!!
Wow! You hit the jackpot there! I'd love find a sale like that around here. You did great Kimberley! Lots of planting to do now, huh?
I bet you she's patting herself on the back and feeling very smug....lol!! I know I would be!!
Yes, LOTS of planting. I am SO glad they are all in 4-packs instead of quart or gallon pots! Another advantage of buying plants when they're small. :) There's still one day left of the sale, so fly on in tonight!
Next week they're having their wave petunia sale: 3-packs for $1.00/each. And the next week is the geranium (zonal) sale. I'm blown my money wad, though!
Lucky you Kimberly!! I bet the place was mobbed all day long. It looks like a fabulous nursery.
Wow! You had the time of your life, didn't ya! (She was really excited about rushing out the door too folks! I just got on IM w/her...she did her best to end our 30 second talk so she could fly!! No wonder she was looking forward to getting there!)
You got some good deals GW! And you left de money at deMonye, eh?
LOL - good one, Shoe! Yes, I was a little excited about the sale. I had such trouble getting to sleep the night before (well the morning of the sale - you know me). I felt like a child on Christmas Eve.
I think the milling around and talking with other gardeners is what really does it for me there. I'd grab extra's of a few favorite perennials and end up giving them to others who were looking for them - or even those who weren't! I saw a lady looking at echinacea purpurea (purple coneflowers) and HAD to tell her about the echinops (globe thistles) which look so pretty planted alongside.
It's like a big party with all your favorite candy and great conversation. :)

Oh you are so lucky to have good bargain for 25 cents each oh shoot I wish I could go but too far. Maybe you send me few hehehe... just kidding! I am glad you got it, I am sure you had good time shopping over there.
I might have leftovers to trade - hard to tell at this point because we haven't even gotten the intended beds started yet! Groan. Somehow this spring really crept up on us; last year I was chomping at the bit in February, but this year I'm scrambling to catch up!
I'd love to hear from anyone on their experience with any of the plants I've bought. Some I've grown before, but others I'm just trying for the first time. Post away!
I've grown the Achillea (yarrow) several kinds (plus we have wild yarrow that grows here). Also have a gazillion of the tritoma inside and outside of the ghouse, in 1 gal pots. (I originally started with Kniphofia/Red Hot Poker then got seeds of Tritoma...only difference I can see is that the Tritoma is a shorter growing variety with skinnier leaves.)
This yr I started Monarda "Lambada"...grows very tall w/lots of spike flowers. (Also have a few "Lantern series" I'm doing for hanging baskets.)
I'm sure there are at least a few more in your list we've grown, quite possibly some I don't even know about up in DW's beds that she put in.
Its a good 3 hours from here for me. Good thing too! DH jus t said. lets get in the car right now and go! ( its 8;59p/m) wonder if I should believe him???
I'm taking side and top views of all the seedling varieties for my journal, plus I'll put them in the plants database. I thought it would be a nice reference - I know I've had trouble finding photos of seedlings when I've been trying to see what something coming up in the yard might be. Everyone always shows them blooming, and close-ups of the blooms...But no babies!
hey shoe lol u got any of them [25 cent pokers] lol over
your way,,,,,nana is a packing her ol Scout lol i am
a heading over the MTN. to Shoes place lol [[nana]]
nana...you ol' scoundrel! All my pokers are in one and two gallon pots, some of them are sending up flowers! Wonder if I can ship something that big, if so will let you know.
You could probably remove the soil from the roots, and wrap them in wet newspaper and then plastic. Since they're blooming, you'd probably want to cut them back to mail so they'd put their energy into growing roots once they were replanted. I'm not sure if they'd ship well or not; this is how I shipped some nicotiana, but they were seedlings and hadn't bloomed yet.
Hi Kim,
Thought I'd bring this thread "alive" again for anyone that is close enough to start planning/thinking about a visit this March :) I was SOOOOOOO happy you posted this last year!!! I visited on the weekend that they had geraniums for sale though I'd really wanted to be there for the petunia sale. Maybe we or I could buy for distant folks & send???
I just can't wait for a new season for growing!!!
I'm SO happy for YOU! You definitely found some great "baby" plants, at 25 cents a pot!!! Happy growing :~)
BTW, I have Thalictrum Aquilegifolium - MeadowRue. I grew this one from seed last year, needs stratification to germinate. If you give it plenty of damp shade it will grow very happily for you. I'm trying to grow other varieties of Thalictrum this year, such as "Lavender Mist".

Eeehhum! I live about 8 miles from this fabulous nursery; if anyone wants, I will be more than happy to pick up orders and ship them when the weekend comes :)
I hadn't met Kimberley when she posted this, but I went also; y'all can imagine the crowds, so I didn't meet her that day (as far as I know). Maybe she and I can do a joint raid this coming year? Heh-heh. Same goes for the Wave Petunias (limit 4 flats I think) and the zonal geraniums. The sales are all a couple of weeks apart; I haven't gotten the flier yet about dates, but I am sure we will keep y'all posted.
Anyone else have spectacular sales in the their area in the spring?
The sales are three weekends in April each year, I think it starts with the perennials and the petunias and geraniums are on the following two weekends. Not sure, but I know they're all in April. I need to take care of the plants I have...Not sure if it'd be wise for me to buy more, truthfully. I gave away so many locally this last summer and fall because I just pooped out. My gardening eyes get too big for my gardening stomach every year, more so each year, LOL!
