My Butterfly Bushes (Buddleia davidii) did not die back this year. Usually at about this time of year I cut them back to about 6 inches and they produce wonderfully.
This year due to a very mild winter they are greening up all the way to the top of the bush. My question is doing I cut them back as usual or let them go this year and see what happens? I would appreciate any information.

Buddleia davidii ??
You can cut them back or leave them be for a year of you like. It doesn't seem to make much difference to ours :)
Thanks, Baa, I guess one year of trial won't hurt me or the plants! Actually got to spend time out cleaning up yesterday, and today looks better. YAHOOOOOO!
Main thing to consider is where you want the flowers - up high or nearer to you. The shrub won't mind one way or the other.
philomel, I have the best of both worlds....my main bush is in a bed that is along a side walk but because we live on a slight hill side we can also walk in the yard by the stone wall that the bush is growing next to. It is hard to explain, I can sit on the edge of the wall and weed it's feet or be on the sidewalk and be nose to nose with it. Oh, I am so glad spring is here.
That sounds just perfect!
:)
