I have started noticing that I have some flying insects flying around my seedlings that are under the growlights. Actually, it's the cat that noticed them, and I was wondering why she was spending so much time watching the plants. LOL! What are they and how do I get rid of them? Is this a normal thing? I have no idea where they are coming from either.

They are fungus gnats. They look like little fruit flies. I think there's a thread on the Pest & disease forum about them. They lay eggs in the potting soil and the little wormish larvea feed off decaying matter in the soil. They're a common problem. I would think there'd be more products on the market to control them.

Ugg, I've read enough to know that I don't want them around. Has anyone found a good way to get rid of them? Must have come from the potting soil I'm thinking? It's still too cold here for any bugs to have come in from outside. These are the first bugs I've seen this year.

JoanJ, those little beast are abundant when there is too much watering and heat in the pots. That's why they're so prevalent inside greenhouses..
