I had gotten some Jack in the pulpit (arisamea) from Go-Vols's coop, the plants came on the 21st of march, I planted them and brought them into my spare bedroom that is my little nursery. I had to check my post in the coop to see when exactly I got them, it has been 11 days. You will not believe this, but one of my jack in the pulpits is 12 inches tall (I actually got a ruler out and measured it) and.....there is a full blown flower on it!
I think when I planted it, it was bare roots, because I planted both in the same pot, thinking that I would plant them separately when I planted them outside. The second one is about 10" tall.
Can you belive it? is that incredible or what?
This is absolutely incredible, I am going to bring the digital camera home tomorrow from the office and take a picture to post, becuase no-one would believe this.
bare root to flower in 11 days!!! (arisamea)
I believe it pebble! Mine are just great!!!! I posted a pic in the Photo forum!!!! The Jack-In-The-Pulpit already had a pulpit on it's Jack!!!!!! hehe

Pebble - love to see a pic of your Arisaema. Have a pic of A.candidissima to post sometime. Not mine, but taken in a UK botanical gardens alpine house.
Peter.
I believe it because my cohosh is already 18inch and flowering. Everything is sssssoooooooooo BIG already, im going to be enjoying flowers in the house, before spring has a chance to arrive!
Im ready to order more-I only got 54 plants last time! I want more more more!!!
These plants are wonderful VOLS!!!!
THANKZ from all of us!
me too Dori!!! I wish I'd had a clue that they would be this nice!
I still cant believe it, ruby42, was yours bare root when you got it? (did you get it from go vols' coop?)
It is definately a mystery to me how fast they grew!
I'm just elated!
It was bareroot and YES I got it from the co-op!!!!!!

These plants have (so far) exceeded my wildest expectations in terms of size and vigor. I'm so glad that ya'll are reporting good things, too :) I wasn't sure what to expect, so if I scared anybody off with my warnings that the plants could be quite small, I'm soooo sorry (better to regret ordering too few than to regret ordering too many, huh?)
I'm still waiting to see how well they perform over the growing season, but at this point, I'm planning to purchase again from this vendor, and I'd be willing to coordinate another co-op this fall, if we can make the timing come out okay for those of you further north.
go-vols, I would definately be interested in participating in another coop, this one was something else. I still cant believe my jack in the pulpit...
I think the reason these plants took off so fast is also the reason the nursery got a little worried about waiting any longer to dig them for shipping. I can understand why they would prefer to ship them dormant than wait until they began growing.
Another true story: my (ahem, many) trilliums are leafing out and some are even BLOOMING in their pots. Yes, that's right - plants that are supposed to be very fickle and won't yield a bloom for a year or more after being transplanted are actually blooming less than 14 days after being planted in containers.
My things are all doing great too. I think all of them have sprouted and growing like crazy except one. I noticed tonight its starting to come up too. I want to be in on the fall coop too. thanks Terry for the great plants.
