Mimosa pudica: tree, house plant, or garden plant?

Dayton, OH(Zone 5a)

I've planted some Mimosa pudica seeds I received in a Round Robin. The problem is, I'm not certain if these are meant for the garden; or, are they more likely meant to be a house plant; or, I saw on this sight that they can even grow to be a tree. Any ideas on how I might determine which these are? Thx..

It won't be hardy for you. In tropical zones they're hardy and even considered a noxious weed in some areas. You can grow it as an annual or plant it in a pot and bring it inside in the fall. The unique feature about it is the foliage will fold up when touched - hence the common name "Sensative Plant". I grew it as an annual one year and the plant didn't get real big... about 2 feet tall.

Thanks, Poppysue :) You always have an answer for me when no else does {{{{{{{{{{{{{{{Poppysue}}}}}}}}}}}}}}} I know you have a lot of seeds already, but that you like to be tempted too... I have several unique varieties (I think) of seeds for 2002. One is Bartonia Aurea, a hardy yellow annual with five petals. The other (another annual) is referred to as White Gem or Feverfew more commonly I think. Are you interested in these? You've been very generous with me in so many ways ~ these are something I can offer you this year perhaps as my way of thanking you?

How sweet of you Morph! No need to thank me - I like to help when I can. Honestly ... I'm up to my ears with seeds to start. My eye-balls are always to big for my garden! Thanks for offering tho =]

If you have kids they will love it. My daughter loves it I grow some every year. But have to warn ya touching it to much will kill it. So have a stand by if you are growing it for you kids to enjoy. lol

I didn't know you could touch it too much! It seemed to me as the plant got bigger it was harder to get the leaves to fold up. Maybe I just don't have the right "touch"!

Sue I don't think mine every got the chance to get to big my daughter was always touching it.It always amazed her ever time she walked by she would touch it. I know the one I kept outside discouraged her when it started getting the sticky things on it.(her words)lol

Funny - I remember showing it to my niece and nephew and I got the "Get a life!" look...
