Restriction or WHAT?

Temuco, Chile(Zone 9b)

I got this from a friend ,you may have a look to the USDA's proposed restrictions:

It seems that the deadline for public input is in
about a week.

If I look at my Crystal Ball , even you all in USA will be converted into outlaws (not to say "charming smuglers").

Whoa! It's (critical) time to make certain government agencies accountable to the voting public. Too often, it feels like we are slipping behind the iron curtain with so many such regulations. And it bears noting that this is yet another fee that must be paid by the struggling entrepreneurs, which effectively limits the number of people who can even begin to engage in small business. Once this is established, the fees will increase, the time it takes to get approval for anything will be lengthened, and the sheer audacity of the agencies involved will be multiplied as they crunch us down to whimpering status. In the end, only the government and its chosen few will be allowed to ship a head of lettuce from Texas to North Dakota. Or to Louisiana! So our food supply and all floral products will be even more rigidly controlled, and producers will actually be at the mercy of the bureaucrats who never even see a pea patch, not to mention getting practical experience there. It seems they never sleep in this perpetual quest for domination.

Sheesh!!! What next? Starving us to death? I'm writing my letters tomorrow and mailing them Monday morning with the return receipt thingy,(can't remember what it's called right now, but the green card you attach to letters that they sign and we get back). It's been awhile since I mailed anything that way, but these letters are going out that way.

Great idea, Joan! Thanks for the hint on using the return receipt.

This is Horrendous!! We need to eveyone of us wrtie a letter, and make sure that other garderners on other sites are aware of this also! This would mean the "death" of all our garden sites!!

It really makes me want to copy & distribute a link to everyone, but I don't know how everyone else feels about this issue. Wish Dave could/would post it some how on his daily newsletter as an FYI especially given the March 29, 2002 deadline!

Very good to you all. I don't know if a Canadian would be any help but I am happy to write anyway!

Amanda, we need help wherever it is offered, and you have such a grasp of things American, as well as a good mind. A carefully worded letter from Canada should get attention, as it will stand out among all of ours. Keep it short and to the point, so they will be likely to read it through and know exactly why you wrote. Make each point stand out, to make it simple for them to scan for content. Let them know you have frequent friendly exchanges with Americans, and you are using them in your home schooling project, with full acknowledgment to the children as concerns the source. You are certainly promoting friendship for us in the future when you raise your children to know us as friends. Remind them of the obvious, that thousands of people at this garden site alone, as well as others like it, will be watching their decision, and the results will be felt in the next election.

Of course, be your own sweet charming self, as Americans are fascinated by foreign ladies. And I, for one, thank you for your never failing friendship to Americans and the American way of life as we like to envision it.

I'm writing this to state that the USDA is over steping there bounds on the weed control ideals they are putting forward and I hope that you as our representative are aware that this will not be good for the common person in agriculture or for keeping the older seeds for the diversity that is needed to maintain seeds for future generations. I beleive that the USDA is backing big business these days as well as our land grant schools . I am well aware that they say this will not cause problems but I remember D.D.T. heard for years it's not hurting a thing
As a small farmer and market gardener this weed control is just another way to make it harder for the small farmer to survive because it will stop seeds from moving freely and make the cost go up even more.
While on this subject they want to stop seeds but do very little about over spray from big fields that mess up orgainic fields in the same area. I have several friends that have been having there fields lost to them because of this but they don't have big pockets

this is one i just sent off it might give others ideas to send feel free to use any of my poor ideas afried writing wasn't my strong suite
