Where is a good place to purchase floating row cover? What is the best brand? I sure wish I'd had it to protect my pansies last week - but I'd never heard of it prior to joining DG's!
Thank you for any help with this!
Floating Row Cover
Moogie,
Virtually any garden supply catalog should list it. Look under "season extenders" or "greenhouse supplies." Those are the two most common areas they list it.
If you're using spun polyester, one brand is pretty much like another. Reemay is the most common, but if you can find one less expensively, go for it.
If you use something other than spun polyester (and most times there is no reason to), then there are distinct pros and cons of each type.
Moogie - I can't believe you lost pansies in Texas?? Sheesh... I've seen them bloom under of 6 inches of snow around here. I bet they'll perk up again for you. I bought some of the remay fabric from Pinetree Gardens. I can't remember how much they were charging but I'm sure they have it on their website.
Moogie, I've purchased it several place before over the yrs. Johnny's seems to have the best deal tho. You can get a roll that is 96" X 250' for only $38...that should last a long time. (Just snip off whatever you want to use and store the rest for whenever you need it.)
Whatever you get remember to get it several feet wider than what you are gonna cover since it needs to be tucked down to the ground around all edges to keep out bugs.
Thanks so much for all your comments - you've been a real help!
Poppysue - These are Southern Pansies - so they're not used to anything under 40 degrees (grin) Yes, they're beginning to perk up - just the white ones became brown and crisp. Oh well, it's just about time to replace them with begonias, anyway. Spring isn't really a season here anyway - it's just a couple of weeks of nice weather before the real heat sets in. :-)
What's snow?
