Ha!!!! I got ya! (mole, that is) For the last few days, a mole (or moles) has been ripping through my beds along the house. Since today was pretty warm and I was sick of looking at the tunnels everywhere, I picked up the hose and turned it on full blast. I collapsed as many of the tunnels as I could, trying to get soil back around the roots of my plants. I had caught a mole once before like this, shooting water down the holes. I wasn't expecting much, but when I was done, I saw movement! I watched for another minute and wanted to see if I saw what I thought I did...wanted to see if it would keep moving. The movement stopped and I was about to walk off, but I decided to grab a piece of giant miscanthus I stuck in the ground to mark a plant and I began pushing it into the bed where I saw the movement. I felt something spongy along where the tunnel was and I thought, ah ha!...I've got ya now! Sure enough, I took a trowel and lifted the soil a little and there he was. He thought I wouldn't find him if he stood still for a sec. After a little battle between the 2 trowels I had in my hands to force him out....well, he lost! I flipped him out in the open and...I guess I better not tell you what happened after that, but let's just say that was the last tunnel he will ever make. You can be sure of that. I absolutely HATE moles. They destroy my beds if left alone to do what they want. I don't care what Paul James, The Gardener Guy on HGTV says, they don't loosen the soil, they destroy...and therefore I will destroy if I catch them. One down, 500 to go...lol
