For those of you who missed it you can find out more about Horseshoe here makes for great reading !http://davesgarden.com/journal/viewentry/5612/index.html
Real Names revealed....
Oh gee-willikers! Now the cat is out of the bag! (Course now, my head's a'thinkin' that the author of that article chose to use the name she called me cuz she couldn't spell Ulysseus Magumbo Beauregard.) (There are other mistakes in the article too folks but sometimes that is to be expected from some journalists, for example DON'T try cooking leeks like she wrote!)
By the way, I sent that writer all the way to Californy to do some words about Zany. The poor woman came back flabbergasted...mental and emotional turmoil, a nervous wreck and muttering something about "that Z-Z-Z-Zany p-p-p-person is c-c-crazyyy!!..." Wonder what went on out that way? ;>)
Well now Shoe! I were a wonderin whut happened ta that thur writer woman! Shur does hope she be ok! I would tell the tale but Am plum fraid that folks here jest might knot unnerstand...
WEll, 'Shoe...you're prettier than that peacock!!! (I guess that reporter didn't get to call you "Horseshoe!!)Rex Hunter Griffin, a/k/a D.U.M. Beauregard...great guy!! Jo
Griffin? Is you real last name Griffin Shoe?
Is that newspaper a picture of you Shoe????
How can he NOT be a Griffin? Def: Griffin...mythical creature with an eagle's head and wings, and a lion's body. Now I aske you...doesn't that fit our 'shoe to a "T"??? Jo
Mark and I were creativity class together I believe? Remember Mark? We sat at the back of the room and always caused a ruckus.
OK, OK, I know you folks have been waiting anxiously to hear my real name...... The name on the birth certificate. It's, it's... yep.. It's Kathy Jo.
My Danish mother (Olga) almost named me (Katrina) I had wished for that name for years. Growing up in a world of Kathys has been tough. Now I use Kathy Jo a lot.
I dated a Charlie Joe in High School. If we had married all our children would have been named.... Well, remember Petticoat Junction?
In my High School class not only did my class of 54 have 4 Kathys, we had Mary Jo, Becky Jo, and Bobbie Jo.
My Dad always called me his little farmgirl. That is who I am. I am still a farmgirl. My best friends call me just plain Jo.
I named my youngest daughter after my Mother.

I recall one of GRC's threads about cousins and Shoe (jokingly of course!) said he felt left out.
Well, Welsh surnames are fairly uncommon (it's quite a long, complicated and dull story) Griffin is derived from the same name as Griffiths Griffitt, Griffes and Griffith are. Gruffydd is the link name and is most definitely Welsh, it appears to run in families, going waaaay back. I'm a Griffiths so therefore, very, very tenuiously LOL, we may share a common ancestor way back in the mists of time (excluding adoptions of course). Gruffydd is a very old name and sadly has nothing to do with mythical creatures, part (iuth, (ydd)) means Lord or Chieftan although the Gruff part is rather ambiguous and could mean fierce or red headed, who knows. Anyway I digress LOL.
LOL Kathy Jo, how confusing for your teachers!
Baa...if you plan to claim kin to me and Shoe...you better start learning to eat GRITS!! LOL Welcome! Jo
RR
LOL As much as I'd like to be related to someone here, I have more than my fair share of relatives, there obviously wasn't a lot to do 'back in those days' ;)
Anyone want a few relatives?
Oh my goon-ness! Here I stand in my underwares, exposed! (Actually JO-Roadrunner, the writer did call me Horseshoe but called me the wrong name in the paper! You know how writers can be, poetic license?)
Yes Baa...Griffin is the name. I was always told I was from Irish/Scotch ancestry but who knows what folks may decide to hide. Is Welsh anywhere near being Irish? Or Scotch? Hmmm..."Lord"? Or "Chieftain"...I like that! I even like the 'redhead' part. Maybe I DO have a relative somewhere!
RedRose, yep, that is a picture of me. (I'm the one HOLDING the little dog, NOT the little DOG!)
Katrina JO...er, I mean KathyJO, glad to hear you're a descendent of the Hooterville JO's...I can just see you swimming in the town's water tank, and your big, uh...smile, yeh that's it, smile looking down at everyone!
(Sheesh...where has this thread gone?)
My name is Doris but I don't usually share my middle name as readily! Have you ever heard "Evelela"? Pronounced Ev-uh-lee-la. It was my mother's middle name and her grandmother's middle name. I've never known or heard of anyone else with the name. But my real name is "Nanny". The name given to me almost seven years ago by my first grandchild. :)
ROFL!! You are all a hoot. Poor, poor Shoe. What a rough life he has led.
Doris, Evelela is very unique! And that it has been in your family and passed down like that makes it even more interesting. I remember a girl years ago named Evalyn Lelah Lee and you name reminded me of her so thank you for sharing it!
reminds me of a show....one of my fav-Everybody Loves Raymond.
Well, one way or another, this italian family turns up with this woman who they think is a long lost relative. they talk, have a great time, the whole overall mood of the family changes...until they realize this isnt the woman they thought and she really has some other fmaily out there that she belongs to. well they are sad and say goodbye, when one of the REAL relatives comes by to pick her up.
The relative claims that the family name, Barone, was stolen some time ago by a man who tried to hide his identity (or something like that) and it turns out to be a not so distant relative of Raymond's family. ok, well it was funnier on T.V.
Shoe
There are a number of people in Ireland and Scotland (all over the world really) who stem from the same family name, so it's perfectly possible that some parts of your family lived there at some time. Although the Welsh are a celtic people, their language is very different to Scots and Irish Gaelic. Maybe Griffin was adapted to accomodate the local languages, again who knows.
Thanks Baa...well, here I am lost again in a muddy cloud of who-know-who-is-a-relative. Hmmm... ô¿ô I'll keep looking.
(I actually prefer the Hunter side of the family...never knew the Griffin side well nor was very close to them.)
This has been fun thread...thanks for starting it Meems Maria!.
Seems to me tho other folks out there should sneak forward and offer up some more good conversation. Come on, spill your guts!
Gosh, there's that handsome guy again ;->
Baa, do you know anything about the surname Stevens? Was wondering if it's Welsh, or were they immigrants from somewhere else?
Sorry my guts feel like staying put at the moment Shoe, though i spilt them earlier anyway :-&

Not a lot I'm afraid. As far as I know, English forenames became popular in Wales some time ago. The old way of naming a son was Rhys ap Dafydd ((ap meaning son of)probably teaching grandma to suck eggs here, bear with me LOL) but began to lose the ap and favour an 's' ending, i.e Williams, (Pritchard is a famous one for retaining part of the ap being from ap Richard). Therefore, its perfectly possible (and even quite likely) that Stevens is a modern(ish) surname from Wales.
I wrote some time ago that it seems most people don't want to admit Welsh ancestory LOL.
Wasn't Richard Burton Welsh? He did OK. Jo
Just confirms I'm not in the bundle 'most people' then :*)
But then, how many of us are, lol.
Roadrunner
Welsh people generally admit being Welsh, we can tell anyway, something about the accent is a dead giveaway LOL. Yes indeed, Mr Burton did do very well for himself as does Mr Hopkins. I'm alluding more to places where Europeans have settled. Perhaps the Welsh stayed at home more! :)

You're not alone there, I think its just as good a heritage as any other. Music in the blood and poetry in the soul, and all that.
My sister married a Griffin. Hot dog more cousins.LOL
Hi cousin Baa and Shoe.
