Montrose, PA(Zone 5a)

Plymouth, MI(Zone 6a)

Hi,
This has been fun to read! I've been enjoying meeting the
"Real" Daves garden friends!!!!!!!
Meems, oops.... Maria :0)

Ladysmith, BC(Zone 8a)

My birth certificate says Helen Diana, but was christened Helen Pauline as my Father could not remember what my second name was supposed to be! My Mom has always been mad at Dad for me being christened Helen Pauline. I have always used Helen Diana.

Scotia, CA(Zone 9b)

My birth Certificate says I am Brenda Susan I answer to Brenda, Brendy, Brandy, Breezy, Mom, or Hey you. But over the past few years I find even my family members calling me Zany ...guess I should call more and email less!

Winston Salem, NC(Zone 7a)

TimothyT short for Timothy Thomas Nichols Vincent here. I am chuckling over all those whom comment about being in trouble being called by their "full" names. I always wondered why parents did that until I became one and sure enough the first time my son got in trouble it was "Scott Andrew Vincent" then along came my daughter and sure enough "Laura Lee Vincent" when ever she pressed against the parental envelope! My Birth certificate only lists Timothy Thomas Vincent, but I found at an early age when in trouble outside the home that having a ready "name" was handy, so I could become Thomas Nichols at the drop of a Hat. My working name in Arizona was Red. Either for my hair,my sunburns, or Carolina attitude. But now I enjoy the monikers of Grampy T by my four granddaughters and Silly Uncle Tim by my many neices and nephews. Being a 43 year old Grampy is pretty awesome!!!!!! And my loverly copartner in this grand adventure we call life is Janet Marie Yount Vincent or Grammy J.

Bay City, MI(Zone 6a)

OK Heres the scoop-Kimberly-Gardenwife has been trying to guess my full giving name-so I will give you my nickname and middle name. (snickerz)Thought you had me hey Kim! :P
My first name is after my mom-her name was Dorothy-so i am Dori. Middle name is after dad-he was John Paul-so i got Paula! Dori Paula
I came from a family of 6girlz and I have 5boyz! =]
*i Luv different names!

Monroe, WI(Zone 4b)

I am Anna Louise. Anna for a sister of my grandmother's, and because it is an old Swiss name. (both sets of my grandparents came from Switzerland). My dad had an aunt Louise, so I assume that's where that came from. It's strange, Aunt Louise had some really neat hats, and I bought them at the estate sale. Family members say I look really good in them, Auntie would be proud to see that they stayed in the family and are worn. I am not fond of "Anna", would have rather been something a little more exotic. :>) Everyone calls me Anna Z., just kind of got started in a boating group we belong to and it stuck. I sign most all my notes as Anna Z. and I even have vanity plates on my van that say (you guessed it) "ANNA Z".

Panama, NY(Zone 5a)

Anna, my middle name is also Louise, but my grandfather always called me Katrinkity Jane when I was little - his mother was a Dutch lady - and my mom told me recently that she really wanted to name Katrin, but was living in an Irish neighborhood when I was born!

Mysore, India(Zone 10a)

I'm Dinakar (which means Sun). We use the initials before the name.. "K.R." The K stands for the name of the place where my ancestors hailed from -Konanur ( I haven't seen this place which is 50 miles from here) and the R stands for my father's name Ramachandra Rao. Dinu is what people call me in short. Names are adapted from the Mythologies and the various Sanskrit literature.

Helsinki, Finland(Zone 4b)

That's something cool :)

Perrysburg, OH(Zone 5a)

I'm Becky--not Rebecca, I'm not real sure why, but my middle
name is Jean after my Grandma. We also have Nancy Jean, Gloria Jean, Lindsay Jean, Theresa Jean, Katherine Jean, I think a couple of the great grandchildren are also Jean's--at family picnics we call are male siblings, cousins , and uncles Kevin Jean, Danny Jean, Uncle Jimmy Jean ect..just for fun!!! We tell people Jean's run in or family!!! heheheh
Becky

Toadsuck, TX(Zone 7a)

I'm loving this.......makes us all more "real" and less cyber!!

"eyes"

Crossville, TN

Becky, Either Grandma Jean had a lot of money and everyone wanted to be sure to inherit some by naming babies after her, or she was so well loved that they wanted to honor her!! I have two Cousin Jeans and we always called one Little Gene (boy), the other Jean Charl (Her Dad's name was Charles). BTW....she has two sisters that are DG's. Jo

Belfield, ND(Zone 4a)

I just realized that I never replied to this thread, although I've been reading it.

My name is Joan Louise. The story I got when asked about how I got my name is because I was born on Dec. 10th. Supposedly, when Joan of Arc was imprisoned, she was visited by Saint Louise on Dec. 10th. I've never been able to find any documentation on this though.

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Well...uh-hmmmm...(clearing throat, and speaking somewhat nervously)...I've never told anyone this before but I trust ya'll will keep it to just us, k?
I was born David Ulysseus Magumbo Beauregard. On my distant Mother's side of the fambly, the Magumbo's (they came from a long line of chefs specializing in stews and soups w/okra-hence where we get the modern-day cooking term "gumbo"). Anyway, it was up to me to carry on that lineage as well as her name. On my father's side of the fambly, the Beauregard's, I was informed it was of utmost importance to understand that the very rare brain cells in my noggin must be well-preserved for future generations and requested not to over-use them, a habit I still carry to this day.
Early in life I was run out of town due to the puritan ethics of the townfolk who informed me that "due to your severe ugliness and an unwillingness to talk like normal folks it is imperative that you preserve the peace, tranquility, and the beautification of the townpeople by going on your merry way". I was allowed to take three things. I chose my dog, Bartholomew (Bart for short), my blues jeans, and my guitar. (Over the yrs ol' Bart up and died, my blue jeans wore slap out, and the strings on my guitar got so rusty I was afraid to play it without getting a tetanus shot first.)
Meeting new people was a chore for me, oftentimes cuz I started abbreviating my name using all four initials...as you can see what they spell, I was ridiculed again.
At some point in time I was obviously hit in the head with a horseshoe and people have ever since referred to me by that name.
(So there, *sniff *, I finally shared my secret.)

Baker City, OR(Zone 5b)

Mary Elizabeth here. My mother's middle name was Mary, and her older sister's middle name was Elizabeth. Later addition to post: Shoe, I just read your post and knowing that you can be a bit of a story teller sometimes I only believe the part about the dog, the blue jeans and the guitar.

Grand Prairie, TX

good advice on naming kids, evert. sometiems i honestly wonder what people were smoking....i even know a mary jane because....well she was conceived because her parents were smokin... well, not roses.
my name, melissa is okay. I forget why they names me this, but i guess just because its better than george. but ya know what? my dad calls me george anyway.
well because of melissa, my nicknames are molasses, missy, miss melissa, mel, mellie, misca, and in school i hated when people said militia in history class because i always turned my head.
also, the name melissa means honey bee, which is ironic because i am allergic!!
i named my son hunter, strong name for him and he loves it. he gets a GRRRR look on his face and shows his muscles.
my husband jokes we should name our next son "fisher" which is a boys name.... but do we really need such outdoorsy names in the family? i guess our daughter could be rose, and another could be lily....

Middle, TN(Zone 6b)

Hi ya Shoe,
Sounds like you are doing well. Don't know what we would do without you to bring joy to our days. Keep it up Fella. You are a ray of sunshine even when the skies are cloudy and gray.
Cocoseed, I think those names that you mentioned are really cute although children that you might have might not feel the same way about it. Hunter, Fisher, Rose and Lily might just grow up to hate gardening or anything else that sounded outdoorsy. We wouldn't want that now would we?

Efland, NC(Zone 7a)

Thanks for the compliment Ellen (my head just swelled up so big my hat popped off and flew across the room!)
Cocoseed, I like the name melissa...after all, it is also the name of an herb (Lemon Balm)! And Lemon Balm is a very soothing herb, has an incredible bouquet, and is always appreciated by any who come across it! Hmmmm...wonder if your Momma gave you that name cuz she knew it would fit you perfectly?
(Oh, and by the way, for sure...in my real life, my middle name AND my DD's middle name is Hunter.)

Middle, TN(Zone 6b)

Hunter, really? Must be a family last name, huh? I actually believe that one, Shoe. Am I slipping a gear believing you? One really must exercise caution in actually believing you. Sorry! Now you can laugh at this idiot who fell for it!!! That is what usually happens to me when I am gullible. It sounds right though.

Kentwood, LA(Zone 8b)

I`m with you Elana, It sounds like this could be true. I like it for a girls name also.

Plymouth, MI(Zone 6a)

Elena, I will buy it! Guess Im gullible too. Shoe ya know I think Hunter would fit you just fine. You "HUNT" the gullible ladies down then Giggle your head off! Whats the real first name? Not that anyone will believe you!!! :)
Meems
