How to divide Cordiline terminalia?

Mysore, India(Zone 10a)

My cousin has grown this plant and it is now about a meter tall. I want to make another plant out of it. How to do it? It is on a single stem with leaves at its terminal and still slowly growing upwards.

The best way to divide it is...One for you and two for me..:)

Okay Zany, keep your arms stretched in front of you, palms upwards, eyes closed, till I know how to cut the plant and send them over. ;}

Dinu,

what i used to do when the plant looks leggy is cut about 10" off the top, and plant on equal amount of peat, perlite... to root, or root in water. once the tops is cut, new babies will eventually sprout on lover brances. these new babies will make the plants more fuller. here is a link for u... http://www.ifas.ufl.edu/~apkweb/folnotes/cordylin.htm good luck... ma vie

Many thanks MVR for the useful links. Glad you replied like lightning, cos Zany could be waiting there obeying my 'orders' ;}.

u're very welcome Dinu. it is my pleasure to give a helping hand.

i am afraid u have to go to rigorous custom's procedure before u could send Zany those cuttings. they would have to put that cuttings into quarantine... and heavens know how long it will take.

i also realize Zany & u are kidding with each other. but have to add my 2 cents in. the last time i visited P. I., my cousins owned several orchid nurseries, and they were giving me some dendrobiums and vanda's to take home. i was dismayed to find out about their regulations. not only on one end but both!!!! ain't that a shame!

Whew ! My arms were getting mighty sore and tired! Thanks for the tip on customs! Guess I'll put em down now ;-)

I broke off the stem and planted it in the ground. After nearly 8-9 months, it is in the same place, doing quite well. It roots so easily.
