I don't think it matters much. Cover them with ¼-inch of soil.

My tithonias are growing on their own from the scattered seeds. That makes me think that it does not need too much care.

Tithonia!!!!!!! One summer my zinnia's and tithonia's got fed with the veggie"s(Watch us Grow) I had 5 foot tall bush zinnias (instead of 12") and the tallest t.trees- 9'10" was the tallest and they had to be chopped down in the fall--the butterflies loved them; just sharing a gardening moment::
