Very good "mawtha" (;>)), I've tried a lot of those!
Bee Balm also makes a great tea (sometimes it's referred to as Oswago Tea). I'm especially fond of nasturtiums also (we nickname them "nasties"...not cuz they are tho!)...they add a nice spicey flavor to salads as well as sandwiches (tomato sammiches, cucumber sammiches, etc).
I really love it when we have "strangers" here and we're standing outside talking, then I calmly reach over (usually in mid-sentence) and grab a few petals off a rose and start chewing on them...hah!! the looks/expressions I witness are fantastic! Love it!! (I also look forward to the hips in the fall.)
Violets grow wild here in abundance, such a treat! Can't say I'm familiar with Stock...wonder if it has a common name that is more common to me. Makes me wanna try it!

thank you very much for this helpful post. i wanted to try to grow a few edible flowers as i think they look lovely in salads etc...was worried i'd make my children sick however if anyone had mislabeled seeds accidently.....i'm so new i may not recognise the flower as being wrong...does anyone know of any charts etc showing pics of edibles so i can double check?
thanks again notmartha...i always smile at your name as i think you may mean you are not martha stewert...me neither and would not wish to be!
hugs
amanda

Also lavender. Great in baked goods and other recipes.

The weed purslane is edible and I have tons in my garden right now! I don't think I have much of a hankering for it though.

I've been pulling out buckets of purslane the last week or so. The stuff grows so fast and it's everywhere! Never tried eating it and don't think I ever will. I put out a lot of bagged composted manure this year and I wonder if that's where it came from?

Could come from anywhere. I recently tilled and now have it everywhere, seems endless. I guess I won't starve!
