I made my annual trip to the Portland Flower show yesterday. Such a pleasant relief from the snow & ice we've been overwhelmed with. I have to admit though .... I'm not a crowd person and the place was mobbed. It sure isn't same as being out in a real garden and digging in the dirt. I'd imagine there are a few out there that are planning to attend the Boston Flower Show this next week... Anyone going?
Hubby and I just made a treck out to my little geenhouse to get some trays and pots that I have stored out there. I haven't started using it yet but I'm hoping in a couple of weeks I can clean it out and get the heater going. Today was a beautiful day and it seemed like a lot of the snow had melted but walking out there I sunk up to my thighs (and boy was it cold!). We're going to need some awfully warm days to get rid of all this. Even after it melts I can imagine the ground will be too wet to work until June. I can't even remember a winter we've had so much snow this late in the season. **Sigh**

Wishing for warmth - *sniff, sniff*
I'm sorry to hear this poppysue. I feel sorry for you!
Poppysue,
I'm going to the Chicago Flower and Garden show later today, and it snowed about two inches last night... I'm sure I'll be feeling the same way soon. I'm also getting worried about spring (only 3 days away, according to the calendar!!!) - I've got 65 little tomatoes downstairs, as well as 6 other flats of things, and I'm wondering where I'm going to put them all if the snow never stops!

Shoot ....I guess I'm just feeling sorry for myself. Spring is bound to arrive sooner or later. The days are getting longer and the nights have been in the 30s. I think I'd rather have snow than tornados & earthquakes!
Just think, Poppysue, how beautiful it's going to be when Spring finally does arrive. I bet your flowers are going to bloom their little hearts out!
Warm wishes!!!
Bloomer
Poppysue, I was just thinking about you yesterday as I was looking at tand admiring my poppies, and wondering what stage your poppies are in. I did try to thin them a bit, and thought I would just try to transplant and see what they do. This batch was quite full, and much bigger than the last patch of poppies I tackled.
Your spring will be there soon, just get all the inside chores out of the way, so when spring comes you can concentrate on working out door.
Sorry about your cold/snowy weather, I was complaining today about all the rain we've had for the past 3-4 days, which is normal for this part of the country, but I still dont like it. I want to get things done, and it's too wet.
cheer up Poppysue....

Ok, Ok Byron..... I'll quit whining. I know you got hit worse. In fact I think you've been hit a couple of more times than we have - we got lucky on a couple of close calls that went out to sea before getting here. There's been a lot of melting the last couple of days. Just think - Mud Season will be here in no time!! A weird thing ~(the day after that last big storm)~ I had a flock of robins bobbin around the trees here. I suppose they didn't stick around long to enjoy the winter wonderland!
Poppysue, come on out here and thaw a bit! It's been really nice, sunny, and very healing for the winter blahs. You're more than welcome to come play in my gardens if the urge hits you too bad.
Everyone is invited, just bring your sleeping bags and own garden tools. We'll make a pot of spaghetti, killer omelets for breakfasts, and provide old toothbrushes for cleaning the wonderful soil out from under your fingernails, altho that's optional. Don't even have to worry about tracking dirt and other stuff from the gardens into the house.....I finally remembered where the "on" switch was to the vacuum. LOL!!
I can sympathize, poppysue. We've had way too much of the white stuff this year... in fact, we topped 26 feet for the season with the last snowfall over the weekend. I'm afraid I'll never get my poppies growing. :(
