I am sure this is a really dumb question but here goes...
I have heard people start new plants with certain clippings but does it work with all or most clippings?? I know my sister started Rose of Sharon but can it work with perennial flowers?
thanks
Janice
plant clippings?
Janice, as a general rule, yes. But different plants have varying degrees of success from vegetative propagation, and the methods vary (some require softwood cuttings, other hardwood cuttings, some need rooting hormone, etc.)
If I have a particular plant that I'd like to propagate, I do a search with Google or another search engine with a search string of
"latin name" + propagation
That usually returns several links to information specific to that plant.
I hope that as the plants database grows, we will have more gardeners provide input on successful propagation techniques for the plants listed (and others that they are familiar with!)
Thanks Go.
I saw after I posted my Q that someone was asking about a specific prop forum. Plants can be so expensive and I was thinking if I can gather from family/friends then I can put the money towards my little novilities for the garden. Plus its kinda neat growing a whole plant from a little peice of plant.
What if I could cut off my pinky and grow a whole new Janice! ( I worked long and hard today and will probably edit this tomorrow!!! he he)
thanks again
Janice
