Need help learning

I have a very special (to us) rose it was my father’s wife’s. After she passed we moved him from the Florida Keys to South Carolina. He thought the rose was dead but he couldn’t throw away the pot.

I did nothing to this thing. Dead branches snapped off when we walked by too close. I was just too lazy to ever dump out the pot. The first year after her passing it sprouted one bloom that came to full bloom right around her birthday. And surprisingly it had fallen off pretty close to the anniversary of her passing. I was scared to do anything to her rose at this point for fear of killing it. The second year, followed the exact same growth/death pattern of another bloom nearly identical to the timing of the year before. The third year we pulled the weeds out of the pot added a little bit of mulch and moved it to the other side of the stairs. For sure we killed it we thought. That year it sprouted three roses throughout the summer. I carefully at this point added one capful of rose fertilizer to the pot and waited till I didn’t see it anymore plus probably a month more before I added more. It started shooting out growth and this summer for the first time I have more than one bloom at a time coming in. I have three starting now.

Could anyone please suggest a trusted resource/website for me to research what I’m actually doing. My father posts pics of her roses on Facebook and says it makes him know she’s happy when it blooms. I need to move it and/or stake it up as it’s starting to grow into our pathway. However, I’m deathly afraid of killing this thing. And, to be honest, I’m having a bit of fun watching it now.

We had wild roses in the yard that we tried to save when I cleared out all the brush. But, we killed every single one of them. So I’m pretty nervous to do anything to this one.

Can you give us some pictures?
From what you have described, this rose is tough and resilient. It is surviving with minimal care.

If we can see some images we can assist you with pruning and maintenance.
