Begonias are one of the most rewarding flowers to grow, but starting them from seed can be tricky if you don’t know a few key things.
Here are the biggest tips that make a huge difference:
1. Don’t cover the seeds – Begonia seeds are extremely tiny (almost like dust) and need light to germinate, so just press them onto the surface of the soil.
2. Keep them warm – They germinate best around 70–75°F, so warmth is really important for success.
3. Use humidity early on – A humidity dome or covering your tray helps keep moisture consistent while they’re getting started.
4. Be patient – Begonias can take a couple weeks or sometimes longer depending on conditions.
5. Give strong light after sprouting – Once they come up, good light is key so they don’t stretch and get weak.
One of the biggest mistakes I see is people either covering the seed or letting them dry out too much early on. They need consistent moisture but not soaking wet soil.
