Best & Worst, what did I learn today. July 2025

Sorry I've been missing so long. I got locked out, it's sure not easy to get here once the system logs you out!

I bet you're so excited about your trip! I'd love to go to Scotland some day. My ancestors, in the early 1800's, were foresters on Cavers estate in Hawick in the borders area. The house is in ruins, but parts are still standing. It was home to the Douglass clan.

Went for an MRI of my shoulder last week, I have an appointment with an orthopedic guy that specializes in shoulders next week. The sharp pain is gone, but, at times it just aches so much, and I don't have much use in that arm, and I'm right handed!

Congratulations on your win for your bowling team.
Sorry to hear about the center burning down. Praying they can rebuild, or find a new place to meet.
Deb, praying for your shoulder to be fixed soon.

Deb - sorry about your shoulder! That constant ache can really wear you down. Get lots of rest, please. You'll need to be ambidextrous. It's hard to remember that you need both of your arms, even if just to steady the other one, so being basically one-armed is tough! Hope the orthopedic Dr can help.

The seniors don't know what they'll be doing about a gathering place. They have to wait until the investigation of what caused the fire is over, so it can be reported to the insurance company. Apparently a torch was being used by the county outside the centre, and with the strong winds, that could have caused the fire. Still waiting for the results. They're having a Mother's Day Tea at the Community Centre, but they don't know what will be done about the annual (for 46 years) luncheon they put on - beef on a bun, pie & ice cream, and drinks. They're looking for a location. It's always happened on the Garage Sale weekend Monday and it's a major fundraiser.
I've told the treasurer that there IS a freezer in the Arena Hall. I would guess that the BBQ would stand up to a fire - it's all metal, and in the storage room at the back that used to be attached to the hall. That room is still standing.as it had somewhat pulled away from the main building and the fire started at the front of the building. Can't know what's salvageable, because the street is still blocked off, last I heard.

I'm starting to pack in earnest now. I have all my documents, and just waiting on some British pounds sterling from a Currency Exchange.
Today was a busy day - out the door at 7:15 for 8:05 Aquacizes, then 9:45 Cardio, Core & More (both in the same building), then off to get my mani/pedi done at 11 am, then off to a Community Centre where there is Canasta played on Tuesdays and I've asked if there was interest in other games and there is. As this was the 1st time, and the Canasta organizer had flu in her household, she cancelled Canasta, and no one showed up for the other games, so I came home by 2pm. THEN I had breakfast lol Frozen pizza, and later I had some breaded chicken done in the air fryer.

You will be on vacation before you know it.
Can't wait to hear about your trip and see photos.

yes, the day is coming soon, Tuesday!! On :"day 2" which is the 15th, I'm going to a Scottish Evening, all pre-paid for, and I'm really looking forward to it! Bagpipes, and haggis, etc - 3 1/2 hours in the evening. I got my Scottish pounds today. The company I'd originally booked it from wouldn't have it for me until Tuesday morning and a bank said Wednesday morning, so found another currency exchange company and they had it on hand. For 200 pounds, it cost me $415.50! Yes, it's more expensive than British pounds, but it's more accepted by the Scots. I have 5 memory sticks for my digital camera & bought lots of AA batteries for it.
I'm SO excited! My ONLY worry is missing a connection between planes (going there, not worried about the return). I've had it happen before & got stuck in the Chicago airport for 12 hours.
I'll be sure to take lots of pictures!

Michelle & Lonnie are taking me to the St. Norbert Farmer's Market tomorrow, for Mother's Day. Not to buy fruit & vegetables (would perish while I'm away) but to see the craft vendors & maybe get some preserves.

I'm so excited for you, Susan. I'm sure looking forward to all the photos you'll have to show us!
I have surgery scheduled for June 2nd on my shoulder. Now, I'm trying to figure out how I'll manage with only my left arm. I was told a recliner is the best way to sleep. Need to see if I can find one that's affordable. Trying to find friends who will take a dog for a couple weeks, too.
Going to my granddaughter's volleyball tournament this afternoon.
Happy Mother's Day, ladies! I hope you have a grand day!!

Sounds like an awesome trip. I hope you found some cute crafts and preserves you were looking for.
Deb, sorry to hear that you have to get surgery.
Hope you all had a good mother's day.

I'm here, and as polite as Canadians are, Scots are even more so!
The lovely old buildings are beautiful.
I'm in Edinburgh, and "New city" is 300 years old, while "Old city" is 800+ years old! We North Americans have NO idea of the integrated culture this means. In a lot of older areas you won't find homes for sale because they're passed down to the next generation.
I got here Wednesday morning and trying to catch up on my sleep with a 6 hour time difference. Tonight I meet the tour group for dinner at 6 pm and I woke up just before midnight 😂
Now that I have a better sleep I'm going to go walkabout and look at the shops in 8 hours

It sounds fabulous, Susan!! I hope your jet lag isn't too bad. I hope you're taking lots of photos!!
