I haven't heard of that group Susan. I have not received a request for it.
Best & Worst, what did I learn today. July 2025
Are you on FB Linda Kay? I would send you an invite to The Gratitude Group, but I don't have you on my list of friends. You can do a search for The Gratitude Group though and join.

Susan, you are REALLY settling in to your new home.
Linda, sometimes TOO busy. We are really looking forward to leaving on Wednesday.
Deb, good luck with the vet appointment. I hope it turns out the way you want.
We'll have lunch with Marie's son Matt & his wife Sunday. Then on to my son' Dana & Carrie's have dinner & spend the night. The retreat is only about an hour from Dana's.
Luca's vet appointment didn't turn out too bad. His heart is only slightly enlarged, and the one blood chemical he expected to be high is only slightly elevated. There's a dog club not too far that's having a health testing clinic in November. I've signed him up for the cardiac screening which includes an echocardiogram. My vet isn't too concerned at this point, but, how do you not worry.
I went to a craft "bash" they called it, on Sat. It was at a county fairgrounds in southern Wisconsin. It was huge. Every building, every barn had crafters selling their wares. Outside there were more crafters under pop up tents with more tables of goodies. I spent way more than I should, but that was fun. Next year I'm bringing a wagon to tote my things. It took a couple trips to the car to load up, but, I got some Christmas shopping done!
Pat - I love being busy. Sometimes I miss all the activities I was involved in, such as Crib on Wednesdays, and tournaments & Games Night on Friday, community dinners etc.
Judy - so glad that Luca's heart problems seem to be less than you thought. Good for you for signing him up for more testing though. It doesn't hurt to keep on top of things like this. lol a wagon, eh? Obviously you plan on buying out the vendors lol Great for you, for already ahead of the game for Christmas!
Last night I went to a multi-church service and was in the choir. It was good. Afterwards we had a fellowship time, and there must have been 100 people there! There were some that didn't stay for fellowship, so I think at the service there were 130 or so.
Today I bowled the best game I can ever remember- 5 pin, and got 271!!!! I really like this bowling lane.
Tomorrow I'm driving 1 1/2 hours out of town to a recommended denturist. Apparently he does them well enough that I shouldn't have to use fixative. Friend of mine, in Alberta got hers made by him, and she's very happy with hers.
Pat, enjoy your trip.
I have yet been to a state fair. Always seems like something else gets planned.
Susan, sounds like you are enjoying your new place.
Our dentist are so expensive. I need a molar pulled, and it is going to cost me $350.00. Dental insurance doesn't pay for much of anything. Free xrays, and 1 cleaning. A very small portion of any Dental work done.
Today I pick up my new dentures. They're not covered by any medical plan, so $1,300 later........ wish I still had my natural teeth, they wouldn't cost so much. It's 1 hour & 45 minute drive to a highly recommended denturist.
Happy Thanksgiving, Susan!
Thank you! My guest list has whittled down from 6 of us, to 4. One fell on Saturday & hurt her back. She's at home, but staying in bed. The other lady is a neighbour of mine, and she has a terrible migraine. So, it's me, my daughter & son-in-law, and a good friend of mine that I've known for years. That's 2 vegans, and 2 turkey eaters lol I put a 20 lb turkey in the oven, so Karen & I will feast. My daughter is bringing a vegan main alternative for her & Lonnie. I tried to whip vegan cream & it isn't working, so Michelle will bring some vegan whipping cream. At least I got the vegan biscuits, pumpkin pie, and rhubarb ice cream (plus of course the veggies, potatoes & yams - & pickles) that they can have.
I'll see about bringing a plate of dinner to my neighbour with the migraine. The other lady has someone bringing her dinner.
Happy belated thanksgiving Susan. Hope you had a great day with family and friends.
That's not bad for dentures. They are about 8 grand here. Very expensive.Modtvdentidt are now pushing teeth implants instead of dentures. Implants start at $1000.00 per tooth. -
ouch! That's a lot of moola for teeth!
Thanksgiving was good, just the 4 of us then we played some cards. Michelle & I should never play cards, she likes to win and when I do she says that I'm too competitive........
She forgot to sign my passport picture, so today while she's at work I'll drop the form & picture off in her mailbox & pick it up from the mailbox tomorrow. I don't feel like waiting until the weekend to see her. This way I can take it into the Service Canada office tomorrow, and hopefully get my passport right away.
Our Postal Service is on a Rotating Strike, so mail is going through again, slowly.
Why does someone have to sign your passport photo?
So glad it's Friday! Been a busy week at work. Lots to get done this weekend. Next week I'm going to the Afghan Hound Club of America show. I'll have to work Monday, but leaving early Tuesday morning and will be there the rest of the week. This is our big annual event. I'm looking forward to seeing friends I haven't seen since last year.
Linda Kay - I go to a place that takes passport photos (in this case a courier company takes them), then get someone to sign is as a guarantee that the face & the name match, then I take it to the passport office to get my passport. Tomorrow I will go AGAIN, so show all the ID they require & hope that I can finally get my passport.
Judy - how great is that, to be seeing friends at the Afghan Hound Club. Enjoy!
I am SO happy with my mechanic. They're really taking care of me. When I left bowling this afternoon, my "low pressure" tire symbol came up, so I went to the garage to see about it. My tire valve had gotten corroded and they took the tire off, cleaned the corrosion & put the tire back on, made sure all 4 tires had the right pressure and DIDN'T charge me, because "you're a good customer". I've only been their customer since the beginning of August, but they were recommended by my friend Karen. I won't go anywhere else. They give me suggestions to maintain my car (put "GumOut" in, to clean the lines) and try to do what they can to NOT charge me for things I can do on my own.
I'm also happy with my "car detailer" for the job he did on my car - steam cleaned the inside, car wash, buffed scratches on the exterior, fixed the plastic shield on my driver's side seat (the edging that's at the bottom of the seat was cracked in half), polished my headlights and my car looks showroom new. He also put some panels that had popped out, back in place. All for $200 and brought my car back to me, saying that he'd take the bus back. I gave him a ride to his shop instead. He's a one-man operation with a shop and car bays, etc. He's very professional.
Glad you found a mechanic you can trust. They are hard to find.
Deb, praying you did well at the dog show.
The passport agent thought that I STILL needed my old marriage certificate (which I surrendered when I applied for a divorce), and I told her "no, you have enough ID". She put it through anyway & said if Passport Canada had any questions about it, that they'd call. They haven't, and I expect to get my passport on Nov 19th.
Yesterday I went practice skating, and fell 3x forwards - my palm is bruised and I bruised one knee. That evening I went to my skating lesson and fell backwards, hitting my head hard. Glad that I wore knee pads & a helmet! I had a headache that night, but I'm fine. I checked myself for my short-term memory (left my grocery list in the car lol but I got everything on my list and my eyes were fine, so no concussion. I'll go back again next Wed.
Got home from the shows last night. My girl showed well, got second in her class at one show, and won her class in the other two. But, no points toward her championship. She needs 3 more to finish. It was so nice to catch up with people I haven't seen in a year or more. Learned a few things in the education seminar, didn't buy anthing in the art auction. Lots of nice things, but, the ones I liked sold for way more than I could afford. Trying to get through laundry from the trip today, should do one more load, but, I think I've had it. Still have more things in the car to bring in, they can wait until tomorrow, too!
Congratulations to you & your girl! Why doesn't this give her points towards her championship?
All the female class winners are shown together, and only one is chosen for points. One male and one female win points in each breed at a show. Her chance will come, but, probably won't be until next year. The next two months will be super busy, and there aren't any shows really close by until the weekend after New Year's, and I doubt I'll go to those, just because they are more expensive, and it's a crowded show venue.
ok, I've never been to a Dog Show, Deb, so I don't understand a lot of the nuances of judging. To me, pedigree doesn't mean a lot, but behaviour & looks count (again, to me. That's my opinion). Do her current points stay with her so she can add to them next year?
Yes, her current points stay. Behavior and conformation are what they are judged on. Pedigrees count, but, only when breeding the next generation.
I thought that you had to show their pedigree in order to allow your dog to enter a dog show. Guess that I was wrong.
Hurray, I FINALLY got my Mb Health card in the mail! Now, the next thing is to wait for my Passport, which should arrive by Nov 19th. I won't be using it until I go to Scotland, in May.
Congratulations! Slowly, you're getting there.
They need an AKC number to enter the show, which proves they're purebred, but they're judged on conformation and behavior. The original reason for shows was to judge breeding stock. And those are two things you wouldn't want to breed to dogs with problems.
yes, slowly but surely - got my driver's license, car safety & registration & insurance, license plates, a Dr, hearing aid specialist, Health card, library card, updated my Pension (x3) and a whole bunch of address changes. Now, to get my prescriptions changed over & Blue Cross, and my passport. My AB medical coverage was only good for 3 months, so would end Nov 1 - cutting it close!
Deb,, congratulations on the dog show. I know you are proud of your dogs.
Susan, there sure is a lot you had to do for you moving. Sounds like you're almost done.
No one posting anymore?
I've been checking, but, assume everyone has things going on. I miss what this thread used to be.
We had our first snow overnight, supposed to get more snow tonight, winter storm warning they keep saying, but, back to 60 degrees next weekend.
Two weeks ago I tripped and fell, totally missed the curb, fell on my face. Still have bruises, and I thought that was all. I went for a teeth cleaning yesterday and mentioned that my gum felt sore, and there was pressure when I bit down. It was the opposite side of my face that hit the sidewalk when I fell, guess the force was enough, I have a loose tooth. I'm hoping it can be saved, I have to go see my dentist on Tuesday.
I hope everyone is doing well.
Deb
Momcat, Ouch! Sorry to read of your fall. Today I received a subscription renewal notice. Fixes that need quite a bit of attention fell on deaf ears so I can only remember of what DG used to be like. I uploaded over 15,000 plant images. Some are sideways and PlantFiles are broken without any effort to fix the bugs. I guess this is it for me. I continue to grow rare and new plants in my backyard nursery. So many new and interesting plants I find almost daily. I'm just about to submit a good sized order for Eucalyptus seed of the more cold-hardy species for my zone 8b Canadian climate. Thanks to everyone who I've met and learned from on DG. My favourite pic. Magnolia sprengeri var diva.
Ouch on the fall, and loose tooth! I hope that it CAN be saved. What would you do if it can't be?
Growin - I didn't renew my subscription, but this particular site is free and frankly, I don't go to any other threads within DG.
I remember when it was much more active, too, and I miss those time.
Today I got a letter from the Gov't rental support and I've been approved for $325 a month. Hurray! Different provinces in Canada have different agencies, and especially those that help seniors. I sent a rental agreement to them, but forgot to send the one with MY signature, but did have the landlord's signature lol When they get my new email, I'll be getting a retroactive payment.
I finished knitting the baby blanket for my new great great nephew & also made a small quilt for his big sister. I'm rather pleased with them both. I have to wait until my sewing machine is out of the shop to finish the binding, but all the hand quilting is done.
Those are very cute, Susan. A lot of work, a lot of love were put into them!
Growin, I know the site can be frustrating, and isn't worth the subscription cost, but, like Susan said, you don't need to subscribe to see this thread.
Sorry to hear that you fell Deb. Praying they don't have to pull you tooth.
Susan, those quilts are beautiful. Congratulations on getting rent assistance.
My daughter in law and I had a church craft fair this past Saturday. We made teddy bears, quilts and placemats. We sold $340.00 worth of stuff. On Sunday before church started we sold 3 more quilts, and took orders for 2 more quilts and 3 more teddy bears.
lol I can't even delete a thread I created because it's part of the subscription - They keep telling me that it's closed, but it's NOT!
Today we celebrate our fallen heroes on Remembrance Day. I'm going to my local Legion, in my full Celtic outfit for the ceremony that they're holding at Noon. I suppose that the ones putting it on have more than one ceremony so they're going to several Legions.
My Uncle Ben in WW1 (pictured left) and cousin Ben in WWII (pictured right).

awwwwwww those teddy bears are cute! Congrats on your sales and orders, Linda Kay!
Well, I bit the dust and bought a small microwave. I've done without one for a year, but there are just some things that can only be nuked - my eye mask & my neck pillow, for instance. I sold my neck pillow because I didn't have a microwave but when my friends (DeAnn & her hubby Peter) come mid-December, they'll bring everything I need that I can't get here & things I forgot in my old town (my Aggravation game board that my dad & I made and a neck pillow that a friend makes).
Great sales, LindaKay. Those Teddy bears are adorable!
Went to the dentist yesterday, the tooth is cracked below the gums, so no saving it. I have to go to an oral surgeon to have it removed, and I've used up my dental insurance for the year. No idea what this is going to cost, but it needs to be done now.
Are you getting an implant, Deb?
Possibly. I want to talk to him first. A friend of mine said I should just get a partial, because I'm missing 2 molars on the opposite side, too. But, I'm leaning towards an implant and eventually getting implants for the molars too. But, one step at a time. Dental stuff just scares the heck out of me, we'll see how today goes.
I'm seriously considering an implant. Everything went well with the extraction. Sore, but that should go away in a few days. Talked to the doctor about an implant. He said my bone density is good, so they wouldn't need to do a bone graft. He said come back and see him in 3 months, one quick appointment for a scan, and he could do the implant the next week. Just need to figure out the money. They quoted 3650 for everything. That's an awful lot, insurance won't pay anything towards it.
boo hiss on insurance not paying anything on your implant! This IS a fair chunk of change for the dental work. Does that pay for everything, extraction & all? Three months? That's an awful long time for an implant. Here, I know of people who have gotten the implant within a couple of days. Cost $2k, but I'm not sure if insurance paid any of it. I suspect so, because it was a dental 'oooops' where a woman's jaw was broken, 'accidentally'
The extraction was separate, $595. He said the jaw bone needs to heal, and bone will fill in where the root was. It takes about 3 months for that to happen. We have 2 different dental insurance plans at work, one covers implants, but, only $1200 and doesn't cover as much on routine stuff, it pays a smaller percentage. The one I have doesn't cover anything on implants, but, covers 100% on routine stuff, and 70% on bigger things, like root canals.
Have the dentist rename the procedure to root canal!!
