With early applications of Spinosad and Slug Magic I've had the most pest free garden I can remember (mostly flea beetles and slugs in the past.) To my surprise this year, my basil seedlings were badly damaged. It could have been slugs, but why no other plants? If it were later in the season I might suspect earwigs because I probably didn't spray the basil with Spinosad, since it's historically been pest free. Any ideas?
What got my basil?
Snails. Earwigs and grasshoppers chew holes but snails tend to chew from leaf edge inward.
To see, I would water plant well after sun goes down. Then go out at night with a flashlight. But don't go too late for a hungry snail could finish what is left pretty quickly.
I used to do this a lot and catch pailfuls of snails and slugs a night.
