Best/Worse/What I’d I learn Today..Pull Up a Chair,come chat with friends, everyone welcome!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Must have been delicious to be all gone already, the recipes must be southern recipes, I’ve never tasted them before.

Well I got my timer working, looks lovely, did turn the music off though, will put it back on in December.

Talked to Darlene, she is not well at all, been looking for rentals stateside but doesn’t want to commit until mid December at John has to see how much further his cancer has progressed.

Had a gab with mom, she can’t stop coughing, sounds terrible.Sharon goes to dog shows in December and likely won’t be home 2-3 days before Christmas so guess it’s up to me Re getting mom here for a few weeks to include Christmas Dat and New Years Day.
I chatted a lot, gave Ziggy ham which I place on bedroom dresser where he looks out, he is now taking 1/4 of my side of bed and sleeping, guess my turn.

Hope your day was special in every way way
Again Happy Thanksgiving

Betty, I found this on Google. Don't know if it's too long for what you need.

Betty, They are actually both northern recipes. The salad is from J.L. Hudson's department store a Detroit institution for many many years. The chestnut recipe is also an old one sometimes called Rumake' and made with chicken liver. This is made with water chestnuts wrappped with bacon, baked and then covered with a sauce and baked again.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Sounds delicious Karen. WOW Linda, that sure sounds like the perfect find for Betty.

Evening..just heading to bed, that kind of day.

Bet your tummies are full..

Love that poem Lindakay, thanks for finding it.

Karen, still amazes me that zones seem to have their own dialect, recipes, traditions etc.

Dianne do you have any snow left..rained most of the afternoon.

Did any of you brave the crowds for Black Friday? There were many sales here but nothing I needed, that being said a few things from Norms Garden Gallery wanted to come home with me. So tomorrow I will make a floral arrangement in the sleigh i painted many years ago for my coffee table, bought more lights for the tree display outside, timer working, just came on and it’s so pretty out there.

Finished hot chocolate, enjoyed the lights and ornaments as the tree turned..now to do night routine so i can climb into bed…

Beautiful tree Betty.
I avoid the crowds this time of year. I don't need that headache.

Betty - here's another saying:
“A friend is someone who knows the song in your heart and can sing it back to you when you have forgotten the words.”
I used it at our last Senior's meeting.

Great suggestions
All the flashing lights must have frightened the sandman away..

Morning all, just like a spring day..sunrise was breathtaking.

Going to enjoy a Tim Hortons donut, bought 1/2 dozen yesterday and was a good girl, had one with hot chocolate last night and didn’t treat myself to another.

Todays goal, let’s see just how much I can get done, often think i can do a page of to do’s when in reality can only do a few..

8:30-10:30 Evan comes, working on stained glass
1-3 Selma

Rest of the day i get for me

Finish 6 quilt socks
Finish last of 5 SG ornaments, firing
Organize next stained glass

House is a disaster, 3 more bins of bags, ribbons etc to purge

Of course a good vacuum

There goes my Saturday, how about yours

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, you know better than to purge things. As soon as you dispose of them, your going to need them.
Not doing much. Maybe a grocery run. Hope the stores aren't too busy.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Purging 2 toes of Xmas bags, little decorations for flower arrangements, ribbon etc wire for ribbons those k8nds of things..if I tidy 2 totes i should be able to make it 8nto one and know what i have..only other tote is the fully decorated 3’ Xmas tree, will set it up just to get rid of the tote.

Evans piece is ready to go to Gayle’s this week so I can pick it up before the weekend,Went and got my meds, yippee 3 files of injection meds included..did vacuum and good sweep downstairs in hopes not to track the sparkles back upstairs..fixed to hose on the dryer that fell out, last of glass Xmas trees firing, set the outdoor music system to shorter time, am sure neighbours will appreciate as that a lot of lights doing their thing..I’ll make lunch & by then Selma should be here..blizzard last weekend and 50ks this weekend, only in Canada.

Should be busy Lindakay but maybe everyone is Christmas shopping, food stores shouldn’t be packed

How is Todd?

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

I LOVE a good purge! Even if occasionally, I find that I have a use for something that left. Too much stuff means I might not have found it anyhow!!

Our family dinner is canceled Marie is very sick. Probably that virus that is making it'd rounds RSV:

Respiratory syncytial virus or RSV is most common in children, but can also affect adults. This infection of the lungs and respiratory tract causes congestion, sore throat, fever, headache, and other cold-like symptoms." From what I read, of course like most things it is worse for the older & those with underlying health issues. 8% of the people who are hospitalized with it die. Thankfully not a lot of people get hospitalized but still it's pretty rampart right now.

I'm just room sewing. Didn't go out yesterday either.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Now that is worrisome Pat, Marie is likely run down which makes it worse.
Sorry you missed both your Thanksgiving. Are you sewing doll clothes?

So many children up here aren’t feeling well and no meds.mi am excited about getting my injection meds, imagine getting excited over injections.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sorry to hear about Marie. Sending prayers for a speedy recovery.
Todd has lost another 5 pounds. All his clothes are so big. Need to go shopping for him.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Sure not good news Lindakay, is he on supplants like ensure? Did go out shopping like you planned?

Fell asleep just after my last post, glad I got sleeping pills today because I’m sure I ruined my nights sleep.

Prime to turn all those battery operated lights and unplug tree, hungry but not ambitious enough to cook..wish I had some of your leftovers.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

No, I will wait till another day for shopping. Yes, he drinks endure. He like chocolate and vanilla. We had turkey sandwiches today. Very tasty.
Hope you get some sleep.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Purging.......... yup, I did some, too. I pulled all the boxes from the shed, emptied them and my place was a mess with Christmas decorations. With a neighbour's help, I got some stuff set up in the house, then I purged some Christmas things. My 6 building complete Christmas village was one. A lead crystal bowl & pitcher, some Christmas linen (you have No idea how much I had lol) and a Snowman bowl I used to put oranges in.
Now that I'm a "single", couples don't come over for big dinners or evenings anymore, and I now have "only" enough for 3 Christmas decoratings of my home LOL I got rid of a Mr Christmas projector. I had two, and only ONE front of my home, so why have two? Yeah, I could use it inside, but why & where? I have a small'ish mobile home and a lot of pictures on the walls.
This stuff all found its way to our Senior's Silent Auction. Good cause.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

I worked in the garden big time yesterday and around 4pm started sneezing and coughing. By bedtime I had been hit. I loaded up with C and Zinc. Got my Vick's bottle out, probably at least 10 years old, and used a prescription nose spray and the Vick's. Slept well but woke up a few times coughing. Woke up at 8am and texted my friend that comes for a visit every Saturday and told her not to come. Then I went back to bed and slept until 10:45. Had a great hot shower, washed my hair and the heat helped my body get rid of whatever was in my kungs that was making me cough. I took Emma for her walk, curled my hair, made my bed and poor Emma got her breakfast about 1pm. Started feeling a little bit better after the shower and decided to go ahead with my cabbage, potato soup together with a ham shank. It was good and now I am heading to bed.

I just watched a cute movie on Netflix. The Noel Diary.

Betty so pleased your got your injections and pills. Your decorations are lovely.

Pat, so sorry Marie is sick. Hopefully hers will be like mine and pass in a day or two.

Our weather is in the high 50's today but all clouds.

I will check in tomorrow earlier in the day.

Good morning everyone.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sorry to hear that you are not feeling well Sharon. Praying you are feeling better soon..

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning, calling for rain today, I’m going to jump from task to task, all inside so it doesn’t matter what the weather is like.

Sharon let’s hope with getting ahead of what you are coming down with today you will be over it. Hard to believe Sharon that we were very close to having same temps and they say there is no global warming. You’ve missed a few family meals with many not being well, Christmas is coming so get it all over with so all can gather.

Lindakay, once Todd wears solids can he keep them down?

Susan,we are both doing same, but I am not like you, i do purge but much from one box into another,I’d say maybe vs the word purge I should have used the word organize. Lol

Dianne, Evan finished his glass piece..I’ll take a photo for you..abstract but I think he did very well..Mason will be envious, he missed 2 weeks since we started the project so I’m hoping he can finish his..

I did have a really good sleep, imagine me getting up at 8.

I just put curlers in my hair, need to call for appt for a perm as I can’t lift my left arm above shoulder so curling hair a no go..out the call on my tomorrows list.

Coffee time, take a roast out of the freezer, prepare for tonight’s meal

Hooe you all have a great day

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Yes, just sewing. My brother Mark & wife Dyanna stopped by yesterday. With our Tday dinner canceled they made pretzel salad in disposable and delivered to family members. Mark & I had talked a week or so ago & I had said that if I ONLY GOT TO EAT ONE THING for Thanksgiving, it would NOT be turkey but the pretzel salad LOL.

At least you organized. i am going to look harder, can't find my small tree & don't have room for my big one.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, Todd has no problem eating and keeping things down. He just can't gain weight for some reason.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Our Thanksgiving feast was quite wonderful We were around 40 of us. After dinner our youngest granddaughter said she wanted to see Walt and I privately. It was to tell us that she is expecting again...TWINS!!! We are over the moon. We used to have twins often,at one time we had 26 sets. But then they stopped for four generations, They are on both side of my family, my dad was a twin, my maternal grandmother was a twin and had twins. I was just sure every time that I would have twins. All our twins arew fraternal and these are too.
Now I definitely need my sewing room together...I have a couple quilts to make.

Victoria Harbour, ON

How exciting is that Karen..yep,quilts to be made for sure.
Lordy where was your gathering held.

When Roger’s mom and dad had Christmas gatherings we would rent the legion and a dj with eleven kids, add their spouses and their kids it made quite a number…Roger would dress up as Santa, he loved that!

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

TWINS! Yep, double the trouble. My Mom said that my twin Mark asked her "will we ALWAYS be twins?" Humm... maybe he wasn't too excited about this prospect? LOL After 2nd grade we were in different grades as he repeated a year & I did not.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

Betty we always have Thanksgiving at my older daughters farm in central Mchigan. Christmas is at my younger daughter's on the east side of the state.

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

Twins! What wonderful news!!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Karen, that is awesome. Congratulations.

Verona, ON

Twins - that's exciting news Karen. Wishing a safe and healthy pregnancy for your DGD.

You made me miss our Welsh family gathering Karen. But only for a moment as I remember my uncles tying one on and fighting. As I got into my teens I had to be pressured into going. It was not uncommon to have 60 sitting down for a meal. Relatives arrived with card tables and chairs, boxes of dishes and cutlery as well as tons of food. I can still see those card tables winding around our kitchen, living room and dining room. When it was at our place my mom would cook 2 turkeys and my aunts would bring hams, desserts and sides.

My brother and sister were twins and my brother 'the golden child' could do no wrong and was as mean as a snake towards my sister. My sister was born with several health problems and spent a lot of time in hospital the first 10 years of her life. Apparently once she was at Sick Kids in Toronto for almost 6 months. My parents neither had the money nor could they drive the 5 hour drive to get there. The nurses on the floor started taking my sister home with them for the weekend.

Betty are the sleeping pills working for you ?

The PBS station from Seattle has excellent programs on Sat. and Sun nights. Sat it was a 3 hour special on Willie Nelson back in the 70's and 80's when he still had a great singing voice. Last night it was Magic Moments and included all those wonderful songs of the 50's and 60's. It was great to see all the original groups back together. Of course some have passed and were remembered. Frankie Lane was 92 and could still sing. Now these are programs recorded several years ago - but they replay them a lot. Nick Clooney was host - now there is a man who is a picnic for the eyes.

We've walked and now I have some boring tasks that have to be done.

Stay safe and healthy.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Dianne, that is a huge gathering. Sorry to hear about your sister.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Dianne, every time I hear of family dynamics like that, I am more grateful for my family. They are not "perfect" but we got along and did not have that kind of blatant favoritism going on.

My helper and I got the leaves raked up and the back flowerbeds trimmed and cleaned. We had had weather as low as the 20's yet I still have snapdragons with blooms!! CRAZY things LOL! My nose was running like a faucet and his was not! I was wiping my poor nose on my coat sleeve, SO ladylike! LOL

Gabe & I looked in the 2 barns AGAIN and still did not find my small tree. Seriously thinking of checking some thrift store & Walmart and just buying another one or going without this year.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

I'm surprised that so many of us can get together and have such a good time together. One sister is bi-polar and would cause problems every holiday but she just stays away now. It's really a relief. She did ask our other sister why I didn't want her boys around my family and was told exactly what they had done. One even served 15 years. Since then she has not been in contact with any of us.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

II can see why it is a relief Karen that they stay away.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Good morning everyone.
My belief is that there is not a family in the world that is not dysfunctional in some way. Even "perfect" families have something or someone that makes it difficult.
Been busy lately. Today our Wellness group meets for lucheon at a restaurant & we're celebrating a birthday that was forgotten in Oct. It was our chairperson, Joan's birthday on Oct 22nd and we entirely forgot it. Well, I got her a present & card from the group, will pick up balloons, someone else is getting a cake & flowers, and the restaurant will bring her a glass of wine. We're also doing a gift exchange. Last night I did Christmas cards for the group.
Sunday we're having a catered dinner for Silver Willow, and I (with help) willl have to take down all the Silent Auction stuff & make sure it finds the new owner or gets stored to give back to the individuals or donated to a thrift shop.
Lots of decorating of the hall. I have some sewing to do of "floor wipes" to do as gifts. I bought the cutest Christmas gnomes to give as gifts. Basically, they're cloth bags filed with rice, fun fur around the entire body/face with only a nose showing and a stocking cap. They're so cute. I have to take a picture of them. So cute. I got 7 for $100 (deal because the crafter sold so many to me). She says it only takes 20 minutes to make them.
Hope everyone has a great day.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Yep, you are BUSY Susan! The gnomes sound cute, look forward to seeing a picture of them.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Afternoon all,

Temperature sure took a turn from frigid to freezing. i heard we are in for a storm..also says one coming that will hit Texas and work it’s way to north east…worried about you Lindakay, stay safe.

Susan you are busy, i think you are overdoing it again but you know best..that project sounds like a great one, do hope you can post a photo.

Yes, seems to be one of those in each family sad to say, yikes could it be in?? Lol

Are you settled in Karen? Feeling better after your injection?

Pat how is Marie doing? A tree is hard to lose..i was at Home Depot this morning, trees went from $58-$69-79 some looked pretty sad for being grown in Ontario

Love the music from that era Dianne. I honestly try to hear the words of todays music and no go.

I went to midland and dropped off Evan’s stained glass, Gayle’s whose whole household had been dealing with Covid are feeling better..i may not be able to go inside Friday to pick up the kayak piece and Evan’ s but they will be waiting outside for me.

I took the fixings out to start LeeAnns but decided to lay down for awhile. Giorgi comes at 4 then it will be off to bed i go

I’ve been calling for appt. For injections, after listening to a 2 minute chatter about calling it says due to illness call back grrr

Can fit in an hour nap

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Marie is doing better, still not fabulous. They are waiting for another appointment to get an MRI and procedure done for Phil again. He broke another vertrabrae. She did a little online shopping & I am picking up her stuff for her.
I worked on a home project last night for a few hours. I got to overhead cabinets from a online "Buy nothing" group. They are not identical size, but I am stacking them, attaching them together. I had to change the direction of the swing of the door on one & change out knob positions, put it up on a toe board. I needed more screws and will pick up today. If I am going to paint it, it has to be before I secure the unit to the wall. It will give me much needed storage for pots and pans & my crockkpot.

Victoria Harbour, ON

You amaze me Pat, all that work on your own, you should have r7n one of those demolish and redo shows. Sounds like you know what you are doing, how to heck do you find the time.

One of my Xmas outdoor lit tree just fell down, storms a coming, we got a wind warning.must find something tomorrow to enforce it.

My brother Bernie called, he is redoing he trIke and needs a seat cover done, i tried telling him my machine likely won’t go through it but he says he will be here in the morning and we will try. i haven’t even told him that I really can’t spend any time at the machine or I’m done 8n crying in pain sooo let’s hope he sees my machine can’t do it.

Too funny, Ziggy just jumped on the couch with his arm on my leg looking at my as if to say it’s bed time mom so i will take him up on it

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

No storms here Betty, we are predicted to be in the 70's fir the next 10 days. Mid 40's at night. One of those days will be high of 55. Can't complain.
Susan, Can't wait to see your gnomes? You got 7 of them for $100.00?

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Trust me Betty, it does NOT look like a professional job!! And although I predrilled, I split some of the wood that was my bridge between the 2 cabinets. Since it literally is between, under & over, the 2 cabinets and not visible from ANYWHERE, once it's stacked, I left it. It's got a tacky icky stuff on the face of one of the doors I am having trouble getting off. I have tried alcohol and acetone. Guess WD40 is next.

I don't do anything else, I have no one to take care of, then I guess I have extra time. Besides, I am not spending much time cleaning or cooking! I am awful. I do clean the kitty box & sweep daily and wash my dishes with every meal. That's about it though.

I gave up and shopped for a Christmas tree online several stores, Hobby Lobby, & thrift stores. I came home with a 30-inch wreath with lights for $10. I have not decided whether to hang it outside and keep looking for a tree, or hang it in my sewing room above my desk/ microwave area. I have enough room there since I have NOT found someone to hang the cabinet I have for that area. I hate to do too much in this room that I might not want permanent after I take my house back!
