New at growing clematis. What kind of soil do they like and fertilizer and when. I want to train this vine up a trellis and it will get afternoon sun in zone 9, just north of San Antonio, Texas. If you have a better vine with big showy flowers I will also consider your recommendations. I want this vine to add some shade on my back porch so I want it up a 4' wide trellis and needs to grow about 12' tall max. Thanks

Guess I am on my own. I will do the research. Thought maybe someone would have some knowledge or experience with the vine and could pass it on.
