Will hybrid poplar trees grow in zone 9, S. Texas

My property is north of Corpus Christi, at Lake Mathis/ C.C. i believe that puts us in south part of zone 9. I need fast growing shade trees. Sounds like hybrid poplar will take the brief below freezing weather we have here, but will it be too hot? We have summer days up to 110 deg
