Hi, i bought 4 Johns and 4 Adams elderberry off Ebay. 2 have died, and all 6 have a curled leaf thing going on. I dont see any insects on them. I did use pin oak tree chips i got free from a customer's grinded trunk to mulch the entire bed. I also used 10-10-10 fertilizer from Walmart. I cut the curled leaves off earlier in the season. The curled leaves have come back on all 6 of the plants.
I have no clue whats wrong with them. Help please what to do!?
Well i guess ill answer my own question. Hopefully it can help someone else. The curling leaves are microscopic Eriophyid mites. Spraying will kill natural predators and can make problem worse. The mites
overwinter in bud scales. Prune infected branches down to the ground.
Remove from orchard.
