I have two large (8’ T x 3’ W) arborvitae in a narrow strip (2.5’) between a fence and a sidewalk. They are about 3’ apart. Would it be possible to successfully move them and, if so, how? TIA.
Moving Holmstrup Arborvitae
Lots of sweat equity or a big backhoe, it can be done. Do it in fall though so you won't stress them anymore than they have to be. There will be roots under the sidewalk so they will just have to be cut at this point. The fence is debatable on how to extract roots growing under it.
Hiring a professional is the easiest way but then it might be cheaper to buy new arborvitaes and plant those instead.
