Hello - I'm new to gardening, and have noticed some white powdery residue building up on the outside of a new terracotta pot (in which I have a Bird of Paradise). It seems to creep up from the bottom over time. I tried to wash it away with soap and water, but it returned. I'm wondering if this is some type of mold or is it due to mineral deposits? What can I do about it?
Thanks!
Mold on Terracota Pots
More than likely mineral deposits from leaching through clay pots. One of the features of using clay pots. Other types of pots show mineral/salt buildup on the interior of the pot above the soil line.
