Apple tree from seed back to life.. trim HELP

Beverly Hills, CA

my sick apple tree i planted from seed in a pot was not doing well, so i planted her in the ground, , and she seems to be doing great as i see new fresh leaves and stems growing from the bottom, top leaves still look sick, my question is, how do i trim this to give life to her again, do i trim the upper leaves/stems that are not so well, and leave the new fresh growth from the bottom, just seems odd to have a new growth from the bottom,, see picture.
thanks for any help

Not odd at all. A lot trees have suckers at the base and root suckers. I can cut a lot of my volunteer trees at the base and they will send up new suckers in no time. This is how they survive until you cut it so many times it just doesn't have any more energy to send up new shoots and will die.

You can cut any part of the plant off and let the best part to carry on. You could cut the diseased leaves off and they will send out new leaves to replace the cut ones. I would not try to save any diseased looking leaves but the stem could be healthy. Use a fungicide if need be.

thanks for the info..
i dont think it was diseased, i think it needed a bigger place to be planted as the roots were overwhelming the pot, so once i relocated the tree from the pot to the ground, it got healthy and sprouted, so wondering if i should trim any part of the tree to let new sprouts take over, or just leave it alone?
