I live in the San Jacinto Valley, (Zone 9b) where the temperatures fluctuate dramatically from one season to the next. Temperatures in the summer can get as high as 110 degrees, while the winter season can get as low as 20 degrees.
I would like to be growing something — anything — year round, suitable to whatever season it is. Flowers and vegetables. Tomatoes in summer, lettuce and kale in winter, and everything in between.
How does one go about planning out a garden that would have something blooming and growing in it at just about the time something else needs to be pulled up and composted? Because I live in California, there is no issues of snow. I’d like to have things growing in my garden every month of the year.
Thank you.
Planting In the Desert
Hello detff,
Do you have any neighbors, and do any of them garden? What do you have for a water supply, and what does your soil look like? Does the County you live in have a County Agent? Do you have any books or pamphlets on gardening in your area?
