I bought some incredible large purple and white Lupines along wi th some Salvia I want to put in front of my shop. The tag says they bloom from early to late summer. Does that mean the whole time??The tag just says Lupinus. I am zone 5b, but we treat Rocky Ford CO as zone 4 because of our extremes in temperature in winter and summer. It's been 80s, today it's freezing. Where I want to plant these is south facing right in front of the shop.. we get extreme 105 in June, July and August for days straight.. Will they handle it??.. I have shade cloth to shield it if need be. They will get morning shade till about 2p.. than that full sun??
Lupines
Lupines do not bloom all summer, and they will certainly die in the conditions you describe. In fact, they will not do well in Colorado, which tends to be dry and alkaline. They like cool maritime climates, like Maine, coastal Washington State, and Great Britain. The salvia should do well.
I can't even get Lupines to grow in my garden here in north Idaho. They don't like to be transplanted. The Salvia should be fine. It's pretty hardy. Do you have perennial Salvia, or annual Salvia? Blue or red?
