We have 20 ‘Emerald Green’ Arborvitaes approximately 15 feet tall as a privacy screen. We would like to reduce them to 10 feet tall WITHOUT them being Flat on top but to keep their conical shape. We don’t Expect to solve this problem immediately but realize it will take 2+ years to do this. Any ideas in how to do this pruning for height?
I thought I saw a video about 2 years ago that stated by cutting the top ‘main leader’ down by no more than 2-feet at a 45-degree angle and at a spot on the main leader that leaves 2-3 vertical buds on it, will allow the pyramidal top begin to grow back. Any advice will be very much appreciated!! Thank You in Advance!
