Is ‘’Jack Frost’ Brunnera a sensitive and fussy plant to grow in Zone 8?
We have two gardn beds that have underground ‘drip’ irrigation on a timer for 3 minutes 2x per week at 4 a.m. I planted 2 small Brunnera ‘Jack Frost’ plants Spring 2018 in the shade and still lost them as the heat and humidity started rising in the Myrtle Beach area in May - August 2018. I made sure the ground was evenly moist. After I lost the 2 plants, I thought I’d try doing a ‘Fall’ planting to give the new “Jack Frost’ an opportunity to have a longer time and less hot, humid weather conditions to grow I planted it in the shade at the end of September 2018. It is now February 2019 and does not appear to have grown much but it is alive.
PS: I also lost 2 ‘Looking Glass” Brunnera (planted in SHADE) to the heat and humidity last year.
Any suggestions as why I am having trouble growing Brunnera and getting them to survive? Thank You.
‘Jack Frost’ Brunnera
According to the people at the Missouri Botanical Garden, the brunnera you mentioned "prefers cool summers, and generally will not perform well in the hot and humid summer conditions of the deep South (USDA Zones 7-9)." You can see their other comments at the following link:
