Bakersfield, California

(Zone 9a)

I'm just curious if there's anyone here from the Bakersfield, California, area.

There's a slim possibility that my husband may be transferred down there and I was wondering how the gardening climate is in such a hot and dry area.

Emlyn,

Everyone that lives in Bakersfield is out working in their fields or gardens. They don't have the time to play on the computer. LOL

At least you would be closer to So. Calif.

So true, Donna, so true! VDH called and spoke with a cousin of his today who lives in Bakersfield. Hadn't spoken with her in years.

Come to find out, she's also a garden addict and said that the weather down there was absolutely beautiful, especially with warmish temps and being able to look up at the Tahachapi's and see the snow. I've been in Bakersfield only once in my life, an overnight stay in a motel, and just those short hours weren't a good experience. Altho the chance of having to move down there is slim at this point, I'm trying not to let that one time 'visit' influence my opinion of the city.

I've been talking to neighbors and co-workers who are familiar with Bakersfield and they've all said some very positive things.

So if we end up there, what time is dinner? :o)

Emlyn, I am a desert gardener. I am not too familiar with , Bakersfield, I have been there. But feel free to ask any questions. Availability of water is the main concern.

Thanx, Michelle! I'm actually hoping that we move down that way. Will be a new challenge that's for sure!

OK Tranferred, Marine, Sailor? Or am I way off? Bakersfield, would probably be easier than here. You have adore the desert , like I do. To put up with the challenges!
But if you do end up here, I am here to assist with any questions you have!

A job transfer for my husband. We won't know for several more weeks if it's Bakersfield, the Sacramento area, or the San Jose area.

One thing for sure, I already have the plants mentally earmarked for digging and taking with us. Hubby is afraid that we're going to have to hire a separate moving van just for plants, already planted planters and containers, and all my gardening tools. He doesn't seem to understand why I can't just start fresh wherever we end up.

Silly man! LOL!!
