New DG Release

San Leandro, CA(Zone 9b)

So true June but I only posted https://davesgarden.com/community/forums/p.php?pid=10410248\
and then got a full on attack on me and revised history of Terry. I think I deserve to be able to defend myself with facts.

Sorry I guess I should not have replied to MaypopLaurel. I think it is a really good idea to leave this to the current issues we are dealing with. Stop bringing Terry into this - she is long gone. I don't care that you two are/were BFF's. What I do care about is your need to be so condescending to any of us. How about you just leave this be so the rest of us can deal with the current issue.

We are trying to get things improved so we are trying to communicate with Tyson - not you. We can't go back we can only go forward. Now please drop all the old history.

Thanks Tyson!

"Yeah.... I've contributed almost 400 photos to the PF database over the years.... I thought the lack of access was a glitch or something --- guess not. If they've removed access even to those who own and generously share their photos in such a way, I will no longer support the site that way... It's not right to remove access even for the photo owner. I already overlooked the fact that they refused to respond when I asked {several times over} about removing some of the photos I provided -- due mainly to quality issues where I wanted to replace old shots with better ones..... This, though, I will not overlook.... I have a feeling other folks will feel the same way I do."

"It's an abuse of content is what it is..... When you remove access for people to their own contributions, they can't find them and, thereby, cannot keep track of how it's being used. Out of sight, out of mind? -- Well, not for an avid plant/flower photographer like myself. I share thousands of photos in support of my local botanical gardens {besides this site} and none of them would ever impede photo owners' say-so over their content because without it, their sites and groups would suffer... I mean, legally, when you don't own the content, you don't have the right to ignore the content owner's requests to remove content they provided. So, yeah, I've uploaded my last photo directly to this site.... I can always link from my {very extensive} personal online photo database as needed, but will no longer give this site direct access to my photography -- which is a shame 'cause it's something I enjoyed and if enough people feel the way I do, the PF database contributions will start to decline."

Reading the replies by the other members here, I still don't see an acceptable response to the question Why? Where's the Logic? besides being all about money.

Thank you for pointing these out. All this info/feedback is helpful.

I am able to find all of my photos i have submitted to the plantfiles and my photo of the day photos by simply performing an advanced search of DG. Specify only the posts made by a specific user and specify the forum you want to view in, ie., Plantfiles forum or Bloom of the day forum.

Hi Phil. YOU ARE SO SMART!!! I had not thought to do it this way. I would have to use this method a few days to see how it works in all the ways I used to use the old boxes, but the few tries I did, it worked well!!

My only complaint is that you need to know the name of the plant. I also use mine in a more general way to ID plants thru my photos or thru someone else's photos. Did you find a way to use this search to get all your or someone else's photos up? Or did you have to limit the search in some way to a specific grouping.

I had never noticed you could search BOTD photos before. Though I found I could not search other peoples BOTD photos.

It is not as convenient for sure. I used to be able to click on a person's name in the forums and click on their PlantFile picture link and see all their entries. And yes, I do that a lot. LOL Especially if they take great and interesting pictures or ones in a genus I particularly love. Also this way to search involves more steps. But it is somewhat workable which is great though I doubt I will ever look at other member's photos again like I used to. Just too much more work..

I do not know if you saw it, but this morning on my DG WELCOME HOME page (and I assume yours), NOT MY OWN MEMBER PAGE where it used to be publicly seen, the "contribution" boxes are back as well as all the BOTD of my photos as well as other people's photos I have entered.

Besides being very long and awkward where it is, because of the page where it is now placed, it can only be seen by me. So no longer can I see other member's contributions or have easy access to them. I guess this is why DG choose to place the boxes there instead of back to each member's page but I wonder why they would want to limit access or maybe it was a unforeseen consequence of their odd placement.

Kell, re: your complaint in 2nd paragraph,
If you want to see someone else's photos, just do and advanced DG search with the other members name instead of yours. Add in the "plantfiles forum" in the other search field.
If i dont remember the exact botanical name of a plant, sometimes i google search what i think it is and most of the time google will give an alternate correct spelling, or i can even add in the common name and widdle down the results. I dont think PF advanced search can correct misspellings.

I'm trying to get the functionality to share your contributions back.

It's nice to be able to see what photos I've uploaded to the site again -- even if the location to be able to do so was found by sheer chance =) Speaking of chances.... Any chance the route to get to them could be put back on the member info. page so it's accessible by all members, not just the uploader?

Could there be a way for us to manage those submissions ourselves --- for instance, if, say, I wanted to remove old, lower quality shots in order to replace them with better quality ones..... or just remove a photo I've submitted for whatever reason.... Any chance we can get that option?

Nice to see that some things are being dealt with. Thank you, IByten.

You managed to look up the current ownership. You haven't bothered to learn the evolution of this current situation.

But, it seems you got it out of your system.

If you have any other interest in using this free platform (since you seem to think you deserve that, and more), come back and ask. Civility brings many rewards, even to those less than grateful.

Hear, hear!

I would give you an acorn, porkpal - but I don't think that's an option here.

Thanks anyway.

This crap is never going to end on this site. I just got a sub for two months to check things out after being gone for ten years. I was hoping things had gotten better here, but it appears they've only gotten worse. What happened here is such a shame. It will never be made right, not in the way member's want it to be. Everyone involved w this site got screwed, except for Dave.

Well this is a bummer. I was trying to impress a retailer with my profile and "poof". Number of pics is removed. An unfortunate result of upgrades. I wish they'd make it enticing to return to dg.

Scott County, KY(Zone 5b)

How about personal testimonials?

"growin is a damn good guy, excellent photographer, and from what I've observed from a digital distance - knows his Fraxinus from a hole in the ground."

Richmond, TX

What Viburnum Valley said.

Thanks guys! Wow, that's a raving testimonial. Very much appreciated. I finally started my nursery and doing well. Busy sales during covid. I was trying to promote myself to a store so used my profile but noticed the 15,000 images I added was no longer showing on my profile. Oh well. When I drive up in my spec truck, they can decide if they want me as a supplier.

Add me to the list of growin supporters.

Your contributions now show up on your home page - at least mine do. Can't answer for why they made that change, since it makes it less accessible to others to see.
