Feel badly for SHARON, state of emergency where she is in North Carol8na, if weather doesn’t 8mprove and she has to spend yet another day in hotel she might as well come home and do dog show another year. Would be disappointing for sure...they called for snow today but so far no go..not complaining!

Turkey almost cooked, ready to mash turnip and potatoes, guess I’ll have an early meal and just relax and read my new quilt book

This snow better hold off until I get home from seeing the eye specialist in Ktown tomorrow morning. I am driving myself in so will have an early meal and go to bed. I feel vertigo coming on and if I cancel it might be 4 or 5 mon before I can see the doc.

Yum on the turkey and turnip meal.

My Santa Warren box will either go out tomorrow or Tues. Had fun picking things for it.

Sorry for Sharon. They aren't really prepared for snow storms down there. When I flew from Charleston SC the guy seated beside me had moved there from a snow belt area in NY. He was telling me he got up 1 morning and there was a slight dusting of snow. He drove off to work - no one was there. After a couple of hours the streets were bare and still no one was at work. He called his secretary. When he asked why people weren't at work her answer was "it snowed. No one goes to work when it snows" He said his sides are still sore from laughing so much.

It's bitter cold here. You too Betty? The wood stove is having a problem keeping the house at 68*.

Enjoy your evening everyone.

Sure hoping no snow for you Dianne, that’s the problem when you have to cancel, the l9ng wait.

Turkey dinner was yummy, have leftovers for forever lol

Omg Dianne, do you keep your house at 68..I have mine at 74 and still find it cold..at night I turn thermostat down to 70 and cover up.

Ziggy is crying to go out, someone told me his love of cold weather is because he has main coon, could be..all,of a sudden he is getting heavier, they also say main coons will grow up to 5 yrs..

Looked at my magazine, like this one

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Yes, your Main Coon will continue to grow and grow!! My oldest son has 2, one is about the size of badger! The other isn't much smaller! MC frequently really love water as well, a rather unique characteristics, so few cats do. They frequently make an interesting sound like chirping.

I can just see the poor NY laughing until he hurt. Some winters we get NO snow, others … couple of feet. I always hate the learning curve when our Newbies have to first encounter snow.

When I lived in Portland OR, we never got snow but EVERY winter got ice storms that would bring down power lines etc. The question was never IF you were going to lose power, but HOW LONG you were going to be without! the longest we were without power was a week. It wasn't so bad. It was like camping out only better, we still had flush toilets and running water!! I cooked outside on our patio on a Coleman stove. I was close to full term and happy that the baby had not yet come.

So glad to hear that your brother got treatment in time and can anticipate a full recovery, even if it take some time.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Betty & LK - vertigo? oh my..... I have a friend who suffers from it, and she says she's totally uncapacitated from it for a few days. Hope you feel better soon.

Busy day today - church, visited 2 friends who are not well, took flowers from RH to one, wallpapering the hallway, and supposed to have Carol for dinner, but she cancelled. She was supposed to come last night, but changed it to tonight. Ah well, guess we're having Chili Lime pork roast for just ourselves.
have more wallpapering to do, cleaning, and maybe some baking, too. Have a potluck at our bowling league on Thurs, but already have meatballs in the freezer. Another potluck at our friend's church on Saturday and we hope that Carol comes with us this time.
Just heard from Doug, on his new cell phone. He's trying to figure it out.

Maryville, TN(Zone 7a)

My sis in NC is snowed in, they got 12inches. We only got about 1/2 an inch here and it didn't last. Saying we might get ice by morning, school is on a 2 hour delay.
Kids paternal grandmother came over today. She isn't speaking to their father and hasn't seen the kids in several years as she was not at all nice to my DGD. She reached out and DGD invited her over. They came today and it was a good visit.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Good to hear that the visit went well. I am always sad when I hear there is tension & bad feelings between family members. Family SHOULD be the most loved and easy to be with. I know it's always that way. I heard a quote recently that made me laugh. "Your friends are God's apology for your family!" although that has NOT been the case for me, I did think it was cute. I think the saying "Friends are the family you CHOOSE" has a better vibe.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

I agree, Pat! I actually have the fridge magnet with the first saying - Jaye sent it to me💕😁

Morning all

Went out to put garbage in the bin and didn’t seem that old, not snowing so that is good.

Dianne hope you have this weather for your travels to Kingston. Safe travels

Speaking of travels, Sharon is still in the hotel checking on weather, not sure if the roads are still closed.

Great news Karen that bridges are being mended, I too like the latter saying..I sure do have friends that are chosen family.

Susan, bet you were relieved hearing from Doug, maybe someone should write out instructions.

Not much on my agenda, I ordered some hand made articles from a young woman the other side of Orillia, might check with her to see if we can meet up at some point today so I can pick them up..have to wait til daybreak first so I know wether or not a storm is moving in...other than that I’ll play in craft room.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Yesterday, myself and another lady from quilting went to the kids ranch, that we made all the quilts for. Every new child for this year gets a quilt. It was so heart warming to see the kids hug those quilts when they recieved them. Because of privacy concerns for the kids, I was not allowed to take photos. 22 kids got a quilt yesterday. Ages were 6 to 16.

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

So glad to hear that your brother is doing so well, Linda Kay! Those quilts will be a treasure for those kids to keep all their lives.
Betty, is Sharon heading down to the big shows in Orlando? I know a lot of people have been affected by the storm. I hope the weather clears and she can make it there. One of these years I hope to be able to go!
All is good here. Had dog shows last weekend, our last for the year. One of my girls got points toward her Grand Champion title, the other got points toward her Championship. So a good weekend, but I didn't have the time at home to get caught up with cleaning, laundry, etc, so need to make a bit more effort in the evenings to get things done.
Taking the day off from work tomorrow, and so is my daughter. It's our annual weekday Christmas shopping outing. She usually works weekends, and the stores are so crowded, so we usually choose a weekday in mid December, while the kids are still in school, to get out and get most of our shopping done. It's something I look forward to every year, because it's a full day, with just the two of us.

Deb

Victoria Harbour, ON

Oh LIndakay, how heartwarming..bet it filled you with tears seeing them so happy!

Deb, yes, she is heading to Orlando, I just messaged her, not sure she got out this morning..was listening to the radio as I drove to meet up for a few ordered things a girl is trying to make $$$ for Christmas, sounds like all is at a standstill..long way to go to dog show

You did very well at the dog show, congrats..house chores can wait, rest for your day with your daughter, wonderful you are both able to get a day off during the week to do this...

Must get to town later or tomorrow, need more Christmas bags, that being said I do have wrapping paper,ok talked myself into wrapping them lol

Am sure Mel will like her knitted hat, she loves red/black checks

Tummy hungry, I got up so early that it thinks it’s lunch time, with all I cooked yesterday, could have fed 8, I guess I can eat whenever the urge strikes me..

Time to quilt the 2nd Santa Quilt then maybe a nap

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

Deb, Congrats on more points for your dogs. How many dogs do you have showing this year? Are they all with handlers (vs showing any yourself)?

I love the red and black check! How cute, do you tie off and change thread at every color change or is there a different way to do that style?

Oh Linda, what a beautiful joy to see that must have been! I never get a chance to see the reactions of the people I donate to. I would like to, would make it more meaningful for me but oh well.

We have snow and ice so I'm staying put for a little bit longer, have plenty to do that I can do here without going out to buy supplies etc. I'm hoping for a super productive day of prep and painting. LOTS to do and I want to make the most of my time. Having Mondays off really helps even if I do drag home on Fridays after 4 10s.

So much to do so I'd better get with it! A full day with my Sister would be just want the doctor ordered... I'll have to check my schedule and see if we can make it happen. We've both been so buried in things to do.

Wishing you all a warm, safe productive day as well!

northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

Pat, I have two girls that I am currently showing, litter sisters from my last litter. Teagan is a champion already, Charlotte is just starting out. I show them myself most of the time, but did have a handler show Teagan at some bigger shows. It really depends on the competition. I know my limitations, and the fellow that handles for me looks much better running around the ring than I do!

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

LK - awesome that you got to see the reactions of the kids receiving their quilts!
yes, I was relieved, but he still doesn't know how to use it. He called me yesterday - once to talk to me, twice "pocket dialed" and three times, trying to reach the fellow he buys cigarettes from. Even called me Steve, not realizing he got the wrong # !!! 😒

Hope everyone's safe & warm today. Take care!

Verona, ON

Home from Ktown and the weather was fine. Sounds like tonight and tomorrow are going to be terrible weather wise. Lots of freezing rain/sleet.

Should have had someone come with me to drive home. My vision on the way home was blurry. It was bad enough that I came straight home rather than get my hair cut. I took back roads - took longer but hardly met a car. Good news - they are going to do cataract surgery first and see if that helps. Pit tumour is still there but the 2 MRIs I am having next week will show how much it has grown. 6 mon wait to even see the doc who does cataract surgery.

Oh LK your heart must have been so full seeing all those kids getting their quilts. I understand about the no photos .... when I was a behavioural teacher then consultant I really had to stress no photos for a lot of reasons. When I had my behavioural classes I would take a photo of each student and write up things the Principal needed to know when handling a situation with the kid but would collect and destroy the photos.

Congratulations Deb... your girls did well. Enjoy your shopping day with your DD.

Pat hope you have a great day with your sis. I miss mine so much. She was 12 when I was born. Until I got into my teens we didn't have much to do with each other but formed a very close relationship. We had what we called "our sisterly vibes". We lived miles apart but always knew when to reach out.

Susan how was your roast of pork ?

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

the pork was great - Chili Lime was the marinade used, and was already appled when we bought it. We had it once before & really enjoyed it, so when we saw it on sale, we got it again. I think that's what we'll have for dinner tonight. One roast is enough for the 2 of us to have for 4 dinners.

Las Vegas, NV(Zone 9a)

Linda, great news about your brother.

Vern is napping and the housekeeper is her so I have a few moments for the computer. Chicken pot pie from Trader Jo's, so dinner s not hassle. Vern likes t and he get half for dinner and the rest with eggs for breakfast.

Tomatoes and peppers are still growing but temps going down later in the week. Probably lose them then.

We had two days of rain last week. Succulents got to much water but o far everything is OK except for a couple of babies that had rooted next to their mothers.

I am not close to being Betty with her Christmas decorations. But I finally did get some decorations out. I only have so much time and I kept telling myself if I brought it out I would have to put it back.

It is getting dark, and I need to walk the dogs. I will try to return.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Attention everyone. I recieved a box from Betty today for the Santa Warren exchange. She sent 3 beautiful pieces of fabric, and a pair of scissors. I might make me a Christmas tote.
Thank you very much Betty. I love my box of goodies

Thumbnail by taters55
(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

I especially like the fabric with birds & sheet music! How fun!

I'm with you Sharon, bring it out, take it back... how much do I REALLY want to do??? I have felt very constricted by available space to store stuff. Now that I have another barn (!) I am hoping I can continue to sort, clean and prioritize and not take the easy way out. (Just jam it in and forget about it/ lose it!) The 8 x 16 has made emptying the area for the new construction much easier.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning all,

Snow dis not find my area, hurrah, no shovelling this morning, just garbage to the curb.

Oh you gals just had to remind me all this Christmas stuff has to go back into bins and into back shed..yikes, no fin lol

Sounds SHARON like you had a torrential downpour. Like Susan and you if you cook a good meal you get to eat all week..today will be my 3rd night for turkey dinner and fixings, haven’t gotten to 1/2 of what I cooked so think tonight I’ll make TV dinners and freeze.

LIndakay, glad you liked the fabric, they are from the same designer so easy to put together in a project, runner, tote etc. Don’t know if you had those scissors, love them with the spring, makes cutting on the hand so much easier..glad you like you santa Warren box.

Sharon made Tampa late last night and is on her way to dog show..am sure she is thinking about weather for her return trip. Must ask her which dogs iare competing.

Deb, how many points do your dogs need to get to next level, could they get them closer to home?

Dianne glad you made it home ok..great that there are back roads to take..long wait for your specialist appts.hooe you will have my weather today, almost feels spring like, not quite lol

Pat, is what you are putting in back sheds mostly what will come back into the house or just storing them 8ncase you may need them?

Bath ready for me, then about 10 minutes hand sewing binding on Santa throw 2 and I’ll have replaced the 2 I sold..thank goodness.

Time to start my day

Victoria Harbour, ON

Spoke a tad too soon, looks like a tad of freezing rain..decided to beat it and with all this talk of putting Christmas decorations in back shed I decided to shovel a pathway and clear where the front doors of the shed..even remembered to lift the wipers on the car..not sure if girls will come but I’ve enough to keep me busy, that is if Ziggy is willing to give her his comfy spot

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

Betty, it just takes longer to get the points needed if we stay in the area. There just aren't many afghans competing locally at the shows, and the number of points you get depends on how many other afghans they beat. Charlotte has 6 points of the 15 needed for her championship, Teagan needs 22 more for her Grand. It'll take some travelling to get the points we need.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, why do you lift the wipers? I really love the scissors with the spring. I agree, they are much easier on the hands.

Verona, ON

Freezing rain on its way here according to the Weather Liars.

LK you lift the wipers so they don't get iced into the window. I have a contraption that you put over the windshield and rear view mirrors. It has magnets to hold it in place.

Don't have any Christmas decorations out.Keep saying I am going to pull out and decorate the wooden Victorian Feather trees but haven't done it yet.

The TH are tired after their romp this morning. They love to skid across the ice on the swamps. I won't let them go on the lake yet.

Stay safe, well and warm/cool

Victoria Harbour, ON

Did get some freezing rain but those gals still copayment out, got a few pressie, one I love is a sign about quilting, will take a photo.

Yes, as Dianne said, easier to device the windshield when wipers are up. I don’t have a cover like Dianne but bout spray that you spray on windows when they have ice and they melt immediately. I’ve seen me go out, need wipers and realize while driving they are up lol

Dianne go for it, out up that feather tree, I’m sure it’s beautiful, if for not her reason the TH will enjoy.

Didn’t realize Deb you get more points when shows are out of town..big expense showing dogs..a way of life for Sharon and am sure same for you. What age can they not compete?

Glad you like the scissors LIndakay, bet you had one already. For you gals I sent Victorian spembroidered santa blocks I found quick easy projects..I’ve 1 pillow made, june already took it home, 3 ready for backs and 3 yet to do

Fast and easy, truly are, I go to get haircut at 2:30 then will finish some..while I’m out I might go to Walmart and buy a few $3.70 pillows so I can cut up and make the inside pillows..

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

oh, I love that fabric with poinsettias and music notes! Who's the designer?
Yes, we're all lifting our wiper blades on the car - so much easier to de-ice them!
Crafting day today, so am going to take my "colour them" gift tags. I got a bag of 24 gift tags, and have the colouring pencils already, so that's going to be what I do today.
We have a new Win10 computer @ the library, and I've been cataloguing the books that one of our number donated - 3 boxes of them! Over 100 books. And we got our regular 10 from Marigold Library that they send every month.
Weather looks better today, too.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Susan not sure who the designer is but nice when out together, anxious to see what LIndakay will make of it..maybe she will have enough left over to make a pillow with the Victorian Santa vpblock I send.

Roads were ok going to town, but it’s starting to snow, should have bought liquid ice melter for the steps as I used all I had...don’t like using salt, tracks through the house and not good for Ziggy..have to put that on my next trip to town.

Bought 4 pillows so should have enough to stuff all I’m doing..was going to go back downstairs and work but I think not, shoulder is painin so much, happens when I wear coat, can’t have anything on my neck or troubles happen.

Thought I’d be creative, cannot wear one of this arm supports to take pressure because it sits around the neck..was at the dollar store and saw one of those spandex knit pants for little girls..thought if I cut the legs off and bind bottom of what is left so it doesn’t ravel I might be able to slip it around my chest to support arm..hope it works, likely not, if it doesn’t I’ve only spent 1.25 on it, no big loss.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Den, Akc live is showing Orlando dog show..

Best of breed for non sporting is in awhile, hoping Inuktitut winds

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Betty, I have never used those scissors. I will at quilting tomorrow.
Posting photos of the name of fabrics. No brand, just the name of the design. I bet it would make a beautiful pillow.

Thumbnail by taters55 Thumbnail by taters55
Victoria Harbour, ON

Might look for some for me..I’ve 6 pillows ready for inserts, will have to wait til morning..shortly best of group for non sporting will be on..SHARON wants me to watch, best I do

Ohhh those cut spandex type pants from the dollar store works ok, just enough on a bad day to hold my arm up, when pain is bad my right arm feels like I’m carrying 200 pounds so I’ll try anything.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Sounds like a pinched nerve. Sure hope the Dr. can figure out what is going on.
How did Sharon and the dogs do?

Victoria Harbour, ON

Inuk won best of breed but not group, still more competing to happen..think it’s time she retires him, he is 11

Got my housework done so now it’s time to get to the pillow forms

Since I’ve made 30 wine socks in total and these pillows with left over stash I’ll need to go the Buffalo between Christmas/New Years to restock..new designs I don’t have

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

I saw that Inuk won the breed yesterday. Quite an accomplishment for any dog, but an 11 year old, almost unheard of.
It's not that you get more points for farther shows, it's just that with Afghans, there aren't many being shown locally, so I need to travel to find competition.

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

I found the same fabric online at Joann's but it didn't list the brand either.

Congrats on the winning points for the dogs. LOTS of work!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Deb saw a belittling brown afghan, was hoping he’d come first but he came 2nd.
Yes, 11 is a tad old when all the young ones are competing.,

Park hoping that Joann’s has some of that fabric when I go but I don’t remember see8ng it at any of the 3 Joann’s I check when stateside...should message Darlene and have her look for some for me.

Day for visiting, Linda dropped in for an hour, she doesn’t drive in bad weather so seeing as it was nice she decided it was a good day to play Santa, saved me a trip, gave her the pressie I made her, her daughters gift and sons gift..wasn’t sure what I was going to give Stephanie but had just finished a pillow so off it went.

Finished my pillows and got a call from joanne, she thought she’d come visit for an hour so I’ll put off starting the quilt ladder until she leaves, likely by then I’ll want to nap lol

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Victoria Harbour, ON

Now I also have to get my supply list out and see what I have to do embroidery projects Saturday..look3d at weather and they still call for half decent weather

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
northeast, IL(Zone 5a)

I just saw the results from today's Orlando show and see that Sharon's dog got BOB again!! Congratulations to her!

(Pat) Kennewick, WA(Zone 5b)

1/2 bedroom done, son will shift furniture over and I'll do other 1/2 after work. going in late today so I could get the painting done...

I know I will have to turn serious attention to Christmas and see EXACTLY where I am with either.

Talked to son in China again today. They are coming late January will likely be with us about 3 months depending on multiple things. I'm trying to smooth way at School district so he can get work there.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Still more competition deb but not sure what for.

Pat you are going to burn yourself out, take time to rest..

Did want to go to foodland and get aunt Muriel a gift, it’s a lantern that looks like a fireplace, turns on glows just like a real one but couch is more tempting right now as
Yours truly is aon the couch with feet up, feeling coolness if late afternoon thinking of grabbing a throw and cuddle in with Ziggy.

Big sigh, did want to work on melanie’s Quilt ladder but I come 1st.
