How to grow thicker stems Dracaena Massangeana

I have a 12 year old dracaena that has two really tall thin stems. I will prune it next week as the plant needs now a stick to support its weight. My question is how do i grow the plant so the stems get much thicker like it is on the original plant. ( see picture)
