I have a lovely (never expected it to do so well) Fatsia japonica. I expected a three foot tall tropical looking shrub. Last year, it grew to 6-7 foot tall and started to obstruct an exterior patio doorway.
So last fall, I cut it down to 1/3 height. This spring, it came back with many, many new shoots.
So my question is...
How and when to relocate it? I only want to do this once And it is awesome. I don’t want to lose it to a stupid mistake...LOL
I live in Dallas TX zone 7b-8a.
Plant is located on a shady north wall with no protection from freezing. Normally, the large leaves freeze, but if left in place, they protect the stems from freezing. In spring, those trunks send out many new shoots.
I plan to move it to the east side of the house with morning sun and later day shade. But, my soil in that bed is very poor and will have to be amended.
What would you do?
I appreciate any suggestions =)
Kathy
