What is this woody growth on the limbs of this gum tree? It doesn't seem to harm the tree which has been growing well for about 5 years now. Any help appreciated. And, is it harmful to surrounding trees?

Nothing is wrong with the tree. These are known as 'corky extrusions' according to this article.
