Hi...I have just signed up and in New Zealand...I would be extremely grateful for any comment on the following fertiliser mix recommended for Tomatoes by an Agriculture company here.. ...Here is the Nutrient list...
N = 12%
K = 15%
S = 8 %
Fe = 0.2%
Zn = 0.02%
P = 5 %
Mg = 1.6 %
B = 0.015%
Mn = 0.02%
Chloride free
Thankyou Hk
Tomato Fertiliser
Nitrogen is too hi for tomatoes. Would make all plant and no food.hmph. N- nitrogen (builds plant tops) K- Potash (a salt)should be the same as the N. Fe- iron builds root systems. S- sulfur usually isnt in our formulas, but when used is generally around a 4-5%, its a slo release type of fertilizer that is most important perhaps in sandy soils with a lot of rainfall. You are missing a Phosphate reading (P2O5, ish) which is your bloom time & fruiting time feeding.
Here in the states we arrange fertilizer by N-P-K, N is up, P is down, and K is all around, for what is basically what affects the plant. Your ph of the soil can affect the fertiilizer you need. Mag. we usually add epsom salts for the magnesium requirements. What is very definitely missing is calcium which tomatoes require for healthy fruits.
That fertilizer may be for your area soil- but are you planting in ground? Or in pots with purchased soils? Have you taken a soil sample so you know your ph and soil deficiencies? Tomatoes for me would need a 6-12-6 N-P-K. Good luck and hope you aren't too confused now
