My hummers are getting bossy, too. Some of these ol boys down here can eat 20# of crayfish a meal. I cant do shellfish at all. They all taste like nasty dirt to me, but I can boil em and peel em with the best. These mudbugs are raised in square shallow ponds and fed better than their wild brethern. There are crayfish worldwide. Literally. St Croix is a legend. My lycoris is showing up a bit late...Debs moonflower vine is growing again.
Plant Propagation the Basics Sept 2017
I have eaten 2 or 3 crawdads. I wouldn't starve if that was all there was, but not crazy about them. Neighbor's little dog walking with my Teddy. she seems to worship him, he worships ball, and walk, and squirrel chase but lets her lean on him Photo displaying upside down, has to do with how I fetched it from the phone's card I think. Gypsi , pets are always fun , Lifting gets me sometimes these days , sometimes you pull things doing nothing ,
Your H&G area looks fun and pretty
You guys are pretty chatty on here. Hi Debra, haven't talked to you in a long time. my RoS is growing good but not blooming. Needs to be in the ground instead of a container. Will do that this fall. Same with one i bought from Hallstons. it has about 40 big buds on it so hope to see it bloom. #Will move it to the garden this fall too. Then maybe they will both bloom.
you all sound nice and healthy and not in danger from the hurricane. We have a ton of smoke. Terrible. Can hardly breathe. All of my little hummers left about a week ago. I am sure it was because of the smoke. They couldn't take it either. We have wildfires everywhere. All around us. Smoke from Canada, montana, Oregon, and about 20 in our state. Glad we don't get the one from LA. That one is huge. Can't believe they haven't gotten it out yet. So sorry for the people in Florida & Louisiana. Gosh, how do people live in those places?
Well, hopefully I will get to show you some of my Hibiscus blooms soon. maybe next year for the ROS Debra. Have a nice visit in NY. JEN
well you just came to visit propagation Jen? Yeah, we chat a little. I need to go out and water the front flowerpots and the rest of the garden, then go to a grandkids birthday party. Daughter has a son turning 13 and a daughter turning 3 with same birthday. same daughter. Have to shop a little.
Gypsi , sounds good ,
A Lupine Sprout this morning .
I am designing another Gizmo , Same thing , But I am too sore to work on it much .
New phone, new camera. I edit my photos to a smaller size or they flip sidewise on DG like a landscape shot instead of a cameo.
Cytf, query for you on stargazer bulbs? I have a yellow that every year loses ots bloom. I was finally home to dig it, but when I first dug it, it looked like a garlic clove, tite cloves to main bulb. I need to plant it, but Harvey interferred, and in the meantime has spread. Some of those 'cloves' are soft as well. These are what you divide? Or only where the split is defined?
You can peel the outer cloves Kitt , Or Divide the bulb in half ( which I find not as good ,
Or if find any little bulbs around the larger bulb , Lift them and plant nearer the surface , they will place their self during the next couple seasons .
Gypsi, that passion flower is stunning!!!
Thanx, Ju, dug my paperwhites, too, they are going back into the bed with new nutrients as well. Gotta get em out of the house before they mummify in there.
the name of the variety is Incense Keith, and it's not winter hardy, i move its pot into the greenhouse (although my greenhouse did freeze last year one time), but the smell is awesome.
when should I try to split my stargazer, it's done blooming.
Echie is echinacea?
Gypsi , Yes Echinacea , White Swan ,
You can bend the Lillium over and take the small bubils around the bottom after they brown also ,
This evening I have a malva Zebrina and a perennial Cauliflower sprout also ,
Now I know how to get seedlings to grow , I just have to get sick so I can't do anything , ?
Very nice to read and get caught up. I don't know what to think of all this weather and fires and stuff. It has been too chilly for me up here, all I have done is sit around, do dishes, laundry and take care of Greta. I did go out and transplant some small purple with maroon center ros seedlings for her from neighbors house to her garden. Good to see you, Jen, please take care when you are outside. My ROS bloomed last winter inside, I gave it away to a gal who wanted one. I am collecting different colors. I have not been out to explore and take pictures other than Greta's back yard, but excited to know I am meeting Remy of Sample Seed Shop Tuesday. She is coming to take me to the Botanical Gardens. The tall purple loose strife of Greta's is gorgeous, but the bishop weed is taking over everything, I don't think I will be able to get rid of it.
Phlox John Fanick, White Boneset aka white mistflower Ageratina wrightii - planted near a gate, so as walking through the gate waft in honey scent and dodge honeybees, My only monarch, not on A. tuberosa, instead on the white zinnia that missed the great zinnia seedling pull. Hoping for colors next year, the white is getting old, fortunately I have 4 for the more the monarch. and Miley and Cuchulann in the windowsill.
awwww I love your gardens, and your kitties! Went to Botanical Gardens today with Remy. ( on the right) I get to mark another name off my bucket list. She is really cool and I was glad to meet her. I wanted every single plant and bloom I saw in here.. LOL I Also got some ideas for my basement Gardens ...Last pic is the purple almost blue Rose of Sharon next door to Greta, here. I just got informed we are bringing in all Greta's plants Thursday before we leave. That will be an all day chore.. she has a lot of tropicals. Most of them are 30 to 40 years old!
30 or 40 year old tropicals are a lot like 20 year old fish, that takes dedication! Have fun. Beautiful pictures.
Must have been fun Debra, wish I could have been there
ROS I love that color! NOW I am on a search. My daughter perked up when I mentioned Coleus too, but she has specific tastes in color. My other MIL has finally found a plant that grows in a pot and does fine. Perilla, of course, and she is really tickled that it grows.
Well, thanks, Guys and Gals. I am digging up some seedlings, will get one going for you, Kitt.
I love Perilla, it grows great with Coleus too..
Perilla isn't coleus?
No, it's an herb. Annual . Really fragrant. Some people cook with it. ( My brother, the retired Chef) It Blooms like Coleus. I never see bugs on it like I get with Coleus. Next year I am mixing them together, tho. Re-seeds heavily. Easy to transplant, easy to ship! Joe said this is one plant that acts like a weed. It is in different varieties, this one is called Beef Steak. Not to be confused with the one in the althernera family. Ya want some?
Will it have to come in for winter Debra?
I have buds ready to bloom as of last night from 5 of Debs MG sprouts, Its like Christmas waiting to see what I get, chuckl. If red was a season, I would have it. Cypress vines have begun to bloom, Cardinal flower is starting to get blooms multiplying, more red salvia. I have tiny pink flowers with never a leaf popped up. Gypsi, I can save some seeds from these 2 zinnias when they dry if you would like. I believe my fern leaf dill is also sprouting, and I am working hard to get those mustang grapes scraped up. Then the rest of the time I am slappin skeeters, sigh.
Keith , thank you about the inventive part , it an old antiquated tech , home can and jar and pipe devices , way back when ,
It is no more dangerous than drilling or cutting it is the part that goes in the coffee can made stationary and fed through a pipe it is square bolted solid and has safe guards . Anything that breaks possibly slides in place or locks to side , no fly offs ,
The sedum here did not bloom well they are pretty when like yours ,
Kitt I like your flowers too , the mosquitoes you can keep lol , ?
My pictures all came out fuzzy this evening Besides these I an Anemone Blooming I will see if a picture will work tomorrow
Aster
gaillardia still blooming
Red Amaranth
I'm glad I'm not the only one that does that Ju. For the coming months I do a LOT of that. But a lot of major BRAIN WAVES come out of that.
I need to tinker with my truck tomorrow.
