Ott's Full Spectrum Lights

Newark, OH(Zone 5b)

This http://www.ottbiolight.com/drott.htm is really interesting stuff about Dr. John Ott and his development of full-spectrum bulbs. He did a lot of time-lapse photography of plants and found that certain light spectrums affected the plants in different ways. Good reading - and I think the products are intriguing, too. I'm all for light, especially with dreary old man winter coming on fall's shirttails.

Any of you used these lights either for plants or for your own benefit?

I have one that I sit by daily for 1/2 an hour or more. It has helped a lot. I just got the task light, being frugal (ok, being cheap!), but it lights up my desk. It's also easy to move around and I use it for sorting seeds and working on crafts - I highly reccomend them. I also have GE full spectrum bulbs in my plant lights - they cost a bit more than just florescent bulbs, but the plants and I are very happy with them.

I bought a couple of those new GE bulbs for our office and bedroom - I like the light from them. Neither light is a task light, though.

I use the full spectrum UVA/UVB bulbs for my turtles. I love the color of light they give off.

When our new insurance become effective in 2002, I am going to make an appointment with our family doctor and see what she thinks of light therapy and if she'd be willing to prescribe it for me. Some insurance carriers cover the lights if the doctor deems them medically necessary. I just know I scored off the charts on a S.A.D. evaluation I took, and I think the light would help me.

IT DOES, IT DOES!!!!!!!!! I am almost human all winter now rather than beary and tired and grumpy. OK - I said ALMOST!!! lol
