Any suggestions for a bush that will provide color for most of the season in zone 5? Sunshine from 8/9 hours of sun per day.

It might behave as a perennial, but Crapemyrtle (Lagerstroemia sp.) will do just that.

You must have been in suspended animation since last year, given all the snow you've had this past (!) winter...
Crapemyrtle loves sunshine. Not swampy but the soil should be well-draining.
Took your advice! Ill post a picture :)
That will be refreshing - especially as I gaze out at this morning's chilly 27ºF landscape here at Viburnum Valley.
