It's the end of November, suppose to be in the 40's, maybe 30's here in NC, but it's high 60's to 70's and all my bulbs are sprouting. What's going to happen when we do get a freeze? Should I cut the tops now? Any suggestions?
Too warm!
I posed the same question in perennials Agapanthus. Our temp.s are unusually warm here as well.
I was assured that the bulbs are resilient and to just mulch well and leave them be. They will come back in the spring.
thanks so much, didn't even think to look there. BTW how warm are you for this time of year?
It went up to 10 Celsius again today and rain, rain, rain...
I think that converts to about 50F
We should have snow on the ground. Generally we get the first snow that stays shortly after Halloween but the ground hasn't begun to freeze so I don't see it in the near future.
The Christmas tree's are dieing on the lots as they were cut weeks ago and usually are frozen till bought and brought indoors.
My Daffodils are up about an inch and my Forget-me-nots and Geraniums have not died back yet. I don't want to mulch the rest of the garden till the ground freezes up a bit and the plants die back a little more.
I'm afraid I will be putting the garden to bed and opening Christmas gifts at the same time!
Ok, I feel better for venting about mother nature :)
Sorry about that.
I'll take some of your rain. We can vent all we want about ma nature, but she'll do what she wants to do. I'm not sure if I believe in this global warming bit, but I do believe that the more cutting and clearing and more houses and roads is affecting the climate. All sorts of opinions on this I know.
All that rain forest cutting has to be changing the climate around the world. Guess the timber companies will thrive for a few more years, until the forests are deserts, and then we will all pay the price for their greediness. Shame I cant rule the world.....would be a lot nicer:)
I'll vote for you Owen!
ahh... we don't have problem about too warm winter here.. :P
We're entering our 6th year of drought' Many of us are xeriscaping as water is very precious here' Wells are drying up without our rains in past years' I keep planting native trees and flowers every year to help with shade and for the birds/squirrels' Last spring I xeriscaped around the total area(foundation)of the house and made the creekbeds to empty any rain from the gutters into the flowerbeds and trees'
Sis, have you checked out using your greywater for more irrigation? Since you're in zone 5 you don't use AC, is there any way you can divert your water from your heating system? We've done that, but our system could be completely different than yours.
why arn't you "allowed" to use greywater?
.....probably afraid some may contain Freon....as many older units are still charged with it.....
"eyes"
AG we have central air/heat,no water involved, refrigerant' As I know of the term, "greywater" refers to water that is pumped from washing machines and from water used to cool machinery(business)' Where we are, many are on wells and seepage goes into them' I'm not on a well anymore but still aware of the dangers of irresponsible people throwing anything onto the soil'
I reccommend the movie "Erin Brockovich" My brother-in-law used to swim at the Willows and died in 1998 from the contamination that went into the soil for many, many years'
yep, I agree... I've had an editorial cartoon on my 'frig for oh, about twenty years now...It says -first panel-Sam was a nice man.
2nd panel- Sam owned a samll farm near St.George Utah
3rd He worked very hard on his farm and made a
decent living
4th Sam was a good American, he always paid his
taxes
5th He would figure out what he owed and mail it
promtply to the Government.
6th And the Goveronment used Sams money to improve
its nuclear bombs.
7th Which it tested not far away from St.George.
And Sam kept paying his taxes.
8th Oh, every now and then the house shook, and
that cloud went by.............
9th Then Sam got Sick
Lukemia, they said
From radio activity,maybe,
they said
10th Sam died
11th America thanks you, Sam
