Hello!
So glad to be here, I have already learned a lot in the short time that I have been here so far.
Here's my dilemma- For the first time in 12 years, half of the bushes (5 out of 9) in front of my home died basically. I was told it was due to a particular ice storm that we had? I kept cutting the dead branches off hoping they would come back, but they never did and it looked really horrible. I decided to take the bushes out. Now it looks pretty bare. What kind of bushes or plants could I plant there so it looks nice? Are there any low maintenance, colorful, not very expensive plants or flowers that I can plant? I live in North Carolina and because the roof of the house extends out, the area doesn't receive that much sun. Thank you in-advance for your help.
newbie here!
Hi! I'm new to this forum as well & you're right, it's very educational.
I live a little north of Atlanta, so I'm not too far from you and I think that here in the South you can't go wrong with encore azaleas. They bloom from early spring on through the first frost and they are very hardy. Another bush that does well in partly shaded areas is the hydrangea. I was at Lowes yesterday and they had a very nice selection. I surprised to see that they even had the really pretty Pink Hydrangeas.
Welcome dedede13 and speden1978. Lilacs, Azaleas, Hydrangeas are all good choices.

Would hydrangeas work in almost no sun?
Without much sun eliminates a hibiscus hedge but you could go with a nice Yew hedge. Simple, low maintenance, dark green and evergreen. Around here a Smaragd Cedar hedge is popular. I've seen Escallonia hedges, which do well and add a bit of bloom and evergreen foliage or California Lilac, if they do well there. Just some thoughts.
