Today, I dumped it!!

Jonesboro, GA(Zone 7b)

As I posted earlier, my DH got me a Mantis Twin compost tumbler for my birthday & 39th anniversary (combined). My neighbor has a single one but I think mine is the "Cadillac' of tumblers! We got it together on Halloween and today 26 days later, I dumped my first wheelbarrow load of wonderful compost. I am very pleased with it. Under ideal conditions, it is supposed to be ready in 14 days. I do not have ideal conditions for making compost. Here it is almost Christmas and we have had frost a few times. My tumbler is not in full sun either so I can't expect miracles. There are some vines that did not go away, so I just threw them back in and will give them another couple of weeks. The other side of the drum should be done next week. I don't have acess to manure or hay but I did put some ground leaves in with the veggie scraps which I had run through the food processor. Just wanted to share my excitement.

I never realised you could compost stuff so quickly!

Yes Baa, that's why this "thing " is so wonderul. It is metal and acts like an oven, and it's like haveing 2 bins since the drum is divided in half. My "old" open pile just sits there not doing much especially this time of year, even tho I turn it every week or 2. I just give this drum a crank every day.

Oh, I always wanted one, but wondered if they were that good, and now I REALLY want one. I'm drooling.
