I planted an Acer palm 'Butterfly' in a semi shaded part of my garden behind a palm tree draping over our pond. In its second year the young Acer was a joy in spring with its pink/cream leaves in full splendour. Sadly, last year (the plant's second year in the garden) we had unexpectedly hot weather early May in England and the leaves were completely scorched on an entire section of one of the two branches on the little tree. I had cut down a few dying leaves on the palm tree and not given a thought to how this could affect the shade protecting my Acer. The Acer only had two main branches and only one survived intact. The scorched branch turning black and which I had to remove. I have since put the plant in a good size container in a part of the garden where this cannot happen again but it looks so lopsided now with only one branch. Is there anything I can do to encourage a new branch to sprout on this beautiful plant. Any suggestions most welcome.
